Looking For Excellent Customer Service?

In the past, people used to complain about the poor level of customer service in the public sector. Currently, I believe that many public sector departments offer better customer service in comparison to some private sector businesses. The NHF, NIS, and CAC are some of the public sector departments where one will get great customer service.

There have been some complaints about the NIS and the AGD concerning the need to present life certificates quarterly. Hopefully, that will be resolved when we have NIDs fully implemented so that when you die, the records of government agencies that pay us retirement benefits will be updated automatically.

I believe that the level of customer service in the private sector has dropped significantly. At the bottom of the list are the supermarkets, followed by some of the remittance offices. The PSOJ needs to push for a new initiative, 'Putting the customer first.' If organisations improve customer service, this would help to improve the attitude of our people. Giving good customer service should be inculcated in our children in schools.

When last have you been to a store or an office, and someone greeted you with a pleasant voice and a smile saying, "Good day. Thanks for visiting us today. How may I assist you?" When you are leaving, someone says to you, "Thanks for choosing us today. It was our pleasure to serve you. We look forward to seeing you in the near future. Have a good day."

Where can we find an outstanding receptionist like Gillian Turnbull, who was the sole Air Jamaica receptionist at Harbour Street in Kingston? Her beautiful voice and her charming personality would put any caller at ease. She could compete with many broadcasters on radio and television in those days. She knew what good customer service was all about.

Talking about bad customer service, I have not even started to mention the banks and the utility companies. The poor level of customer service is negatively impacting our people. If the people do not respect themselves and continue to accept poor customer service, then it will be business as usual.

Let us expose these people when they give poor customer service. Management could help by ensuring that staff members wear name tags so customers can identify them.

Record your customer service experiences and WhatsApp them to me at 876 816-5261 and help to make a difference.

  1. The Minister of Finance via the Tax Commissioner should insist that the senior citizen line must always be staffed.
I have been there and line not working.
Many seniors are the ones who have worked their shirts and blouses off for this country and should be catered for as is in any civilized country.
It seems now that they want persons to display their BC in order to get served as a senior citizen.
Senior citizens should be served first.
