Time To Deal With The Pot Hole Problems PM - Thanks

 


The incidents involving motor vehicles continue unabated on our roads. They only get mentioned in the media if a few people are killed. Dr Lucien Jones, like a recurring decimal, will say the problem is speeding. This incident happened on Long Lane (near the turnoff to Orange Grove) between 9 and 10 on Sunday morning, December 21, 2025.  Firemen and police were on the scene. Are you aware of this accident? Were any lives lost?

I believe that some of these incidents are caused by potholes and other challenges. I notice a few sinkholes on our roads, and motorists keep swerving away from these sinkholes into the path of oncoming traffic.

There is a horrible sinkhole on Kingsway Avenue and another one at the corner of Molynes Road and Washington Boulevard. This is just to name a few.

Mr Prime Minister, it is clear that NWA does not have time to fix these potholes. Let's assign persons to be responsible for each area, and their responsibility would be to fix the potholes as they appear. Failure to do so should result in these persons having to pack their bags and go home. Potholes can result in the following:

  1. Potholes result in significant maintenance costs to motorists.
  2. Encourage the growth of mosquitoes.
  3. Cause of accidents.
  4. Causes a drain on our foreign exchange reserves.
  5. Negatively impact the smooth flow of traffic on our roads.
  6. Impacts the number of roadworthy vehicles on our roads.

    One of your readers wrote about returning to the days of the Length Man Programme a few blogs prior to this one. I don't know of the programme but it seemed to have gotten the job done based on how he/she described it. We probably should recommend this to the government.
