I received the following report from someone who visited the University Hospital of the West Indies this week:
Good evening, Mr Derby. University Hospital is in trouble. I was there from 10 PM to 10.30 AM before I saw a doctor. Only two doctors were working. The management of the hospital is very poor, and to talk about the fee very expensive. Car park fee, the hospital needs good management and who can run a hospital - is the worst I have seen this hospital. I am ashamed of us in this country. Instead of getting better, we're getting worse. If one is not competent to do a job, leave. Mi tired a pretty talk and no action.
Editor's Note
Well, they now have a cashier to collect car park payments. I wonder what was going on before when there was no cashier. They must be making a significant sum of money from the car park to have one cashier doing only that task. I wonder how much she is paid. Was that post advertised?
I was sent a picture of a notice on the floor, which was not seen by the visitor. The question is, why would you put that notice on the floor?
The feedback I am getting about the UHWI is very bad. Note that Bark Di Trute had been on this matter before the auditor general did her audit there.
Can you imagine someone who hires a car from rural Jamaica to the hospital and ends up staying at the hospital for the day? You have a hefty car park fee to pay. We cannot continue to make this country impossible to live in. Note that all of this pressure is put on the Jamaican people by Jamaicans and not our colonial masters.
We should probably rename the hospital the Tony Twaithes Hospital!
