Earthquake Alert - Nicaragua

There was an earthquake in Nicaragua of 4.85 on the Richter scale. This happened today at 0657 DST. That is not far from us, and I don't believe that we are fully prepared for an earthquake at this time.

  1. What happens if any of the dams are damaged?
  2. Do we have first responders in the various communities to assist?
  3. Do we have enough beds in our hospitals to take care of the injured?
  4. Can we inform the nation in time if there is a tsunami?
  5. Are our communities and organizations prepared?

One thing is certain, and that is if we have a serious earthquake and any damage similar to the damage caused by Mellisa, we will need the support of our friends up north again - the United States of America. Only they have the type of equipment nearby to assist if there is major damage.
