Effective Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Errol Greene, OD, JP assumes the role of Reform Implementation Executive at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
In this role, Mr. Greene will be tasked to manage the implementation of the UHWI rehabilitation project by establishing the appropriate project management office and system for the effective and efficient implementation of the project. In collaboration with the Board of Management and The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mr. Greene will also lead the implementation of the recommendations of the Auditor General’s Report of December 2025 and of the UHWI Institutional Review Committee (Mitchell) Report of April 2026.
Mr. Greene assumes this role having previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Wellness and as Regional Director of the largest health authority, the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA), which oversees health services in Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Catherine. He was also a former Regional Director for the Western Regional Health Authority and a former Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston Public Hospital.
In welcoming Mr. Greene to the role, Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, CD, MP said, “This appointment is an important step in strengthening accountability, improving operational efficiency and ensuring the effective implementation of the hospital’s rehabilitation project. We are confident that Mr. Greene’s leadership and institutional knowledge will help to drive the necessary changes to support improved governance, strengthen service delivery and position UHWI to better serve the people of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.”
Prior to his sojourn in public health, Mr. Greene served as Town Clerk of the Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation and served at the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation. Mr. Greene is a Justice of the Peace and a past recipient of the Governor General’s Achievement Award.
For his part, Chairman of the UHWI Board of Management, Mr. Patrick Hylton noted that “The Board recognises the importance of strong leadership, sound governance and decisive action at this critical juncture in the hospital’s development. Mr. Greene brings considerable experience in public sector management and healthcare administration, which will be invaluable in advancing the reform programme and addressing the recommendations arising from the relevant reviews. We look forward to working collaboratively with him and the University to strengthen institutional accountability, improve operational effectiveness and ensure that UHWI continues to deliver quality healthcare to the people of Jamaica and the wider region.”
Editor's Note
The first thing Mr Greene should do is to stop charging for parking at the hospital. Bark Di Trute first got suspicious about the operations at the UHWI when the notice for the new car park was posted. It was clear to Bark Di Trute that the way it was set up, the funds would not end up in the coffers of the UHWI.
Providing parking at the university hospital should be a service that the hospital provides for its patients and those who take patients there. I am convinced that we are more about making money to benefit ourselves.
This seems to be part of the policy to flood the country with cars, especially second cars, to further milk the poor and vulnerable. As far as I know, those who go to Tony Twaites Wing at the hospital are allowed free parking.
