The Most Hon. Juliet Holness To Tell It All on SpotOn!

The Most Hon. Juliet Holness - MP

The Most Hon. Juliet Holness will be my guest on Riddim FM during my programme SpotOn. This is a very dynamic woman on the political scene, who recently stepped on the ants nets of squatting and land capturing. She pointed out that many of these captured lands are without basic infrastructure for  human beings to live on. Some of these places are also unsafe for people to reside.

Join me on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 1000 hours EST and listen to this blunt politician who is telling it as it is. Mrs. Holness is the member of Parliament for St. Andrew East Rural and also the Deputy Speaker of the House. Should we dismiss the issues that have been highlighted? Should we denude the points made by her of its skin deep political colour and have a more in-depth look at what could be some serious national issues? What do you think?

Share your views by sending them by WhatsApp voicemails to 876 816-5261. Join me on Riddim FM and experience broadcasting with a difference where we are SpotOn! SpotOn the people's show, the people's university and the people's parliament!

Michael Spence's Thoughts On Jamaica

Michael Spence

Impressive  functional infrastructural projects are underway which are  cosmetic symbols of deathly debt. They are welcomed nevertheless.

There are some critical basic long term needs to be addressed for Jamaica to move towards being a productively civilized society. These are, being among the countries with the highest levels of illiteracy in the Caribbean (#10 at 88%), high levels of squatting/unplanned living spaces where a third of the population does not fulfill the basic human right of legally occupying a livable space, an economy that has not grown an average of 1% in 40 years, without sustainable or meaningful employment, and bad roads throughout the countryside.

Jamaica being in the top 5 of most murderous countries on the planet that promotes a subversive noisy  musical subculture of  decadence death and destruction.

We the Jamaican people at home and abroad must step back look at where we are, where we coming from and with a intense fixity of purpose decide where are we going and move towards preparing for generations to come and carry on the work.

Again Heeeeelp we need honest, moral, ethical leadership with integrity to guide the process.

Not simply charismatics and charlatans movie like stars. Say no to conmen, quacks and hustlers to lead both in the public and private spheres.

We do not want a Jamaica that is a National Criminal Enterprise. We must all fight against that.

Police Federation Says INDECOM Not A Human Rights Lobby Group

Corporal Rohan James

The Jamaica Police Federation has reacted to comments by INDECOM, stating that the oversight body should stick to their core functions, as they are not a Human Rights Lobby group. The Police Federation says, everyone needs to be on board with crime fighting  as we have become the murder capital of the Carribbean.

Criminals should not feel  emboldened by INDECOM as their duty is to investigate Police actions in keeping with the law, the Federation added.

The Federation says that the state has a duty and responsibility to protect the citizens of this country and Criminals must not feel they have the latitude to create mayhem. If a stance is not taken against criminals, Jamaica will be in serious trouble.

Chairman of the Police Federation Corporal Rohan James says policing in Jamaica is like walking in a mine field. He added that the Police is the buffer between the citizens and marauding criminals.

He is warning the Government that fighting crime cannot be placed on the back burner.

Editor's Note:

Many of these crimminals are local terrorists. A strategy has to be developed to rid the society of these terrorists. Traditional crime fighting methods and laws along with the current judicial system are not sufficient to deal with these terrorists.

Former Workers of Media Company - No Compensation After Nearly Four Years

Hon. Karl Samuda - Minister of Labour
and Social Security

Things are still simmering and approaching boiling point between a well known media house and some of it's former employees I understand. One former worker claimed that she suffered health challenges which resulted from working in an environment where construction work was going on. The former employee claimed that the dust caused by the construction taking place on the building, resulted in staff members suffering from long bouts of coughing.

In a report to this blog, the staff member said that the company gave the employees letters indicating that they should work from home. The staff said that they were sent home in July 2018, and then they were called back to work shortly after. They had to leave for an indefinite period again on August 20, 2018.

Reports are that the doctors diagnosed one staff member as suffering from bronchial Asthma. The former employee is contending that she should receive compensation, but no payment has been received so far. There are also other outstanding work related payments.

The question is, what is the role of the inspectors at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in ensuring that workers are not adversely affected by their work environment? What is the state of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2017? Probably my legal friends can add a comment to this blog and update us. I would love to hear what the trade unionists have to say on this matter. In the meantime, these workers have monies outstanding to them they claim. They are also claiming damages resulting from working in an hazardous environment.

Who will stand up for these former management and workers of this media house? What a life, what a country! Minister Karl Samuda, I wonder if you can push some fire on this one?

Police Federation Makes Strong Call - Deal With Crime

Corporal Rohan James

The Police Federation says the killing of Cpl Oliver Mullings on Friday, October 21,2022 on Third Street, Trench Town,  should  evoke the proper response from our leaders and must be a wake up call , that Jamaica is in serious trouble when law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty.

The Federation says, every citizen has a duty and responsibility to partner with the police in the fight against crime as anyone can be next.

The Federation bemoaned the state of criminality and the  lack of will to fight crime by giving the proper resources to members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. In condemning the brutal slaying of Corporal Mullings, the Federation said for our employer it is business as usual, but the murder rate should be a call to serious action against criminals.

There will be no vision 2030 if criminals are sheltered by weak, archaic and non- existent crime fighting legislations and human rights group who believe in the rights of criminals who have no fear because of weak punishment when they are caught.

The Federation says they will stand with the members who must place their lives on the line daily for the people of Jamaica without proper renumeration, not knowing if they will return home, when they take up duties in crime ridden Jamaica.

They have expressed sincere condolences to the family of the slain Corporal.

Traffic Nightmare at Intersection of Waltham Park Road and Spanish Town Road!

I received the following report from a listener:

Good day Mr Derby, hope you're well. I'm asking you again please help me to bring some attention to Spanish Town Road.  In the mornings it's a menace, Thursday was the worst that I've seen it. It took us about 40 minutes from the intersection at Waltham Park Road and Spanish Town Road to reach S.T.A.T.H.S. Can you believe it ? Gridlock Sir, and the stoplight at the Waltham Park Road/Spanish Town Road intersection has not been working for a long time now, which is one of the main reason for the traffic problem. When it is working it is bad and not so bad, because at least some will obey it, but when it is not working it is Chaos. We need Traffic police there every morning please!

When we finally reached the turn for the school, no vehicle could go in. We had to park on the sidewalk and walk it down. My child wasn't pleased that his name had to go in the late book. Bless your soul Mr. Derby and have a blessed evening.

THE STATE OF EDUCATION.AT ALL LEVELS.. - Lois Grant

.

I don't care what anyone says or thinks....EDUCATION MUST BE GIVEN THE PRIORITY. ATTENTION THAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS. ASK MIA MOTLEY OF BARBADOS. LOOK AT WHAT EDUCATION HAS DONE FOR THAT SMALL ISLAND STATE. THEY ARE WAAY AHEAD OF JAMAICA ..YES THEY ARE.!

COVID has thrown us back many years..wait and see the next generation of graduates. If you think this set is bad, mark my words. Take this generation of so-called communicators, for example, is a sad lot. Their arrogance and ignorance just annoy me. Note to self..leff dem alone..as the new saying goes..drink water and mind my business.

But seriously, how did some of them get into the University here and specifically CARIMAC? Can Dr Livingston White head of CARIMAC answer that question.? Is it that the CARIMAC people are not doing their jobs? . I see posts being written by these so-called communicators, that display their poor use of English, dem grammar is so bad ..dem might as well write inna Patois....NOT EVEN A CAPTION THEY CAN WRITE. or maybe it's my ignorance, they ARE writing in Patois.. Who told me they were writing in the language of the coloniser..fire fe de queen and all that is connected to de monarchy.

One of my elderly friends, an educator of many years, called me almost in tears saying she was having a problem finding someone to assist her in typing her manuscript for a book she is finishing. The audacity of these half-day schoolers changing her sentence construction, not knowing the little learned sayings like..I..before E except after C..OMG...!! And talking about setting up their own basic school even though they are not trained and have no qualifications, The audacity!

Faval Williams.. which part you deh? Who is checking the background of these trainers of our young minds?

One employer just told me she is giving up. Too much stress in finding educated people even at the lower level. They can't read. They can't write, and they certainly can't speak in a clear and manner.

Freedom time now..bring on de Patois as the official language of the intellectual  Jamaicans..read, write, and publish everything inna Patois.. Next thing dem will ask you..where has your mastering of the English Language gotten you. You see me Benz? You see me big house? You see me name brand shoes and clothes? Yes my peeps..those are the priorities of the new generation. They don't need to learn to read, write or do arithmetic. In fact ..What name so?

So go ahead use patois when you represent internationally..let's see how far and how much

respect you will get.

Raspect !
