Westmoreland Western MP Morland Wilson, Welcomes Airport for Negril

Press Release From MP Morland Wilson - 20241022

MP Morland Wilson

Mango Hall, Westmoreland: Tuesday, October 22, 2024: Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Western, Morland Wilson, has welcomed Prime Minister Andrew Holness plans for a new international airport in Negril…., as part of the government’s continued investment in Jamaica’s transport infrastructure

MP Wilson, noted that the prospect of a new airport will enhance connectivity, promote economic development, and improve travel experiences for both residents and visitors.

MP Wilson addressed the Opposition's ‘calls for rethink on Negril airport, pushes for road upgrades’ as he pointed out the Opposition's failure to effectively manage road repairs in Westmoreland during their 30 years in power. He went further to emphasize the government's commitment to not only construct airport for Negril but also upgrading major roadways from Montego Bay to Negril as part of the $40 billion Shared Prosperity Through Accelerated Improvement (SPARK) program, and $24.8 billion Western Water Resilience Programme, which addresses the ongoing drought conditions in western end of the island.

"Our vision for Negril encompasses improved infrastructure, including a upgraded water system, a cruise ship pier, and a new town centre, all designed to transform Negril into a vibrant municipality that fosters economic growth and enhances the quality of life for our residents," MP Wilson stated. "The Negril International airport, the Western Water Resilience Programme and the road upgrades are critical elements of our comprehensive development strategy."

MP Wilson called on the Opposition to support the government's efforts to invest in the future of Negril and Westmoreland, rather than criticizing initiatives aimed at improving the region.

What Our National Heroes Would Think of Us Today?

Contributed

This time of year brings into focus the people who have done heroic acts for the nation. We take a day to remember and honour them: National Heroes' Day.

According to Wikipedia: "A hero is a real person or a main fictional character who, in the face of danger, combats adversity through feats of ingenuity, courage or strength." While Cambridge Dictionary classifies such a being as: "A person who is admired for having done something very brave or having achieved something great"

As the nation recalls the bold acts of gallantry of its seven foundational heroes: Nanny of the Maroons, Samuel Sharpe, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, George William Gordon, Paul Bogle, Norman Washington Manley and his cousin, Sir Alexander Bustamante.

We beg to ask ourselves, where the country would have been if it wasn't for our heroes who fought for our physical, social and political freedom?

Going The Wrong Way?

The nation should reflect on their vision for the country and ensure they honour, not their memories only but continue to create the nation they fought for with their blood and tears to leave behind for their descendants.

A country where people are free, not only from physical shackles but free to express themselves and to live unoppressed. To feel empowered to fight for what they believe in and to live in unity and pride. Proud of who they are and all they have accomplished as individuals and collectively as a nation.

A question that must have at least crossed the minds of some is: How would our heroes feel if they were among us today? Would they be proud of us?

Some would say the nation has lost its way. The hatred and discord giving way to high levels of crime. The greed and selfishness that have birthed and nourished corruption over the decades. The general lack of morals and good sense responsible for many prevailing ills among us.

Righting The Wrongs

Is it too late to turn the tide and become the heroes of our foundational heroes?

That is for each of you to decide. You decide to let it all go to waste or fight to regain a semblance of what our ancestors had envisioned for us. Your daily acts speak louder than you think.

Your common thoughts say more about you than you know. How you treat your fellow countrymen and perceive them is how you honour or dishonour the nation's heroes. Not the pomp and pride of a mere twenty-four hour period where you pretend to remember and honour their memories and what they did for the nation.

Crime - Unconfirmed Crime Messages Received

Message Received - Unconfirmed

I hear that a shooting take place in the Rockfort area just not too long ago. 5 people dead on few are injured a don called Mendez on him son get it to.

Message Received - Unconfirmed

There is a well-known Liguanea plaza that no longer uses Security at the 3 gates. Yesterday they had 3 incidents at the plaza.

1) Attempted kidnapping, assault and robbery

2) robbery and assault (beat up, gunbutted and kicked)

3) vehicle break-in.

The word is allegedly. People living in Kingston 6 can afford $1,000,000 ransom for loved ones.

It's approaching the Christmas Season. There are desperate criminals lurking around.

If you fail to hire trained security for your plaza or business place then the blood of anyone lost at your place is on you.

Fortunately, none of the victims were murdered at the Kingston 6 plaza.

Tip: When you get out of your vehicles be mindful that these criminals know the timing before it auto closes. What happened yesterday, the killer/theief/kidnapper opened the person's vehicle, entering the vehicle before it closed.

The individual was alerted by someone who works at a store - they told the individual that a man went into their vehicle.  The criminals escaped through the opened gate with no security delaying their escape.

Plaza owners spend money on proper security. If patrons desist from supporting the shops in your plaza in the long run you are doing to pay for cutting corners on securing the people doing business in your plaza.

Tit-Bits and Trump Wins A New Job

From Bark Di Trute Ticket Winner

This past Sunday, my mom and I had the incredible opportunity to attend Room 513 at the Courtleigh Auditorium, thanks to Vernon Darby for the tickets. It was our first time seeing a play of this kind, and what an experience it was! From start to finish, we were drawn in by the amazing performances of Glen “Titus” Campbell, Courtney Wilson, Sheree Elise, and Quera South. The humor, the drama, and the overall energy of the show were simply unforgettable.

Patrick Brown’s direction was nothing short of genius, and the storyline kept us entertained and laughing throughout the night. My mom, who rarely gets the chance to attend events like this, had such a wonderful time, leaving the theater with the biggest smile on her face.

With the final week of shows closing on October 21, I would highly recommend that more promoters jump on board and support this production. Room 513 delivers not just entertainment but an experience that touches every audience member, from first-timers like us to seasoned theatre-goers. It’s an evening well-spent, and I’m sure more people would love to experience it!

Hear The Pensioner's Cry

Hi Vernon....... good morning. Please bark the truth about the pension increase. It's 10 years since I have retired from the classroom and my basic pension has remained the same to date. It was only the supplemental that increased by $1,700 monthly. This is an insult to pensioners.
The Minister of Finance indicated that the pensioners have received a substantial increase in pension payment. I would certainly like to know what has happened to the promised substantial increase in pension payment. The Minister stated that pensioners have not received an increase in 10 years so they will be getting a substantial increase in pension. Please shout out what is the true situation with the increase in pension and let me know. Thank you.

What's Happening - October 22,2024

BBC HardTalk To Go!

Stephen Sackur

The BBC HardTalk was made famous in Jamaica by Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding's response to having a gay man in his cabinet. Bruce responded to the question saying, "Not in my cabinet".

Based on my information, the show will end in March 2025.

Small Nuclear Reactors

The news is that companies plan to use small nuclear reactors (SNR) to produce electricity for data centres which will facilitate the use of AI. Will Jamaica work with another country to keep us abreast of the technology?

Can these small nuclear reactors be used to reduce the cost of electricity in Jamaica? Will it be better for us to import more electrical equipment which uses solar energy?

Children at Adult Show

This evening I watched an adult show and there in the front row was a family with their little girl who looked three years old or younger. She was enjoying all the adult sex jokes with her parents. I thought of calling the police but did not, because their hands are full. The last time I made a report to the police and various agencies about a child locked up in a car, I was completely ignored. Click HERE to see that video

BPO What Next?

With the rapid development of technology and the use of artificial technology, we need to change how we do business in Jamaica if we are going to remain competitive in the world. The BPO sector, for example, could become a thing of the past.

With these developments, our current education system will become irrelevant in preparing young people for the world.

Cashless Society

We will be moving towards a cashless society. Have we started to prepare for that? How is the development of our National Identification system going? The Prime Minister was in India recently and he was exposed to India's cashless system. The National Identification System will be important in a cashless society.

JPS Needed in Manchioneal, Portland

Residents in Manchioneal say there is a dangerous high-tension wire on the ground. This needs to be removed as soon as possible. Is the police and the Fire Brigade Service aware of this?

This Life Certificate

The government needs to devise an improved system to verify if pensioners are alive or not. Pensioners have to find a JP every quarter to sign these life certificates to collect their NIS pension or government pension.

Erroneous Gleaner Editorial for October 20, 2024?

MP Everald Warmington

Some people do not appreciate MP Everald Warmington due to his fiery and sometimes abrasive approach. I have had personal challenges with the man but I will not dismiss his points simply because of his personality. The world is made up of all types. The Gleaner's Editorial dated Sunday, October 20, was blinded by Warmington's personality. The editorial was not objective in addressing the MP's points.

MP Warmington's points were possibly influenced by his party colour but we must look beyond that. The MP is calling for a general audit of the Integrity Commission, This is different from the audited annual financial statements Justice Panton spoke about in a press release. A general audit report looks at the operations, the systems in place, and the level of accountability, within the organization. The audit report would indicate if the entity is adhering to the laws and government guidelines. The document would also contain recommendations

There are experienced auditors, accountants, and retired public servants in Jamaica - the nation needs to hear from you on this matter. Integrity is not just the purview of an entity but the responsibility of all. People are being bombarded with incorrect information, We need the truth.

Other Information:

Note:

The Integrity Chairman should stop making insulting comments about parliamentarians. This will negatively impact its credibility. It's politically divisive. In the future, no figures should be given for the number of parliamentarians being investigated. This will lead to speculations and will implicate and undermine the whole parliament.
