Breaking News - All Hell Broke Loose At Meeting Hosted By Mayor Leon Thomas!

Mayor Leon Thomas

It was sheer pandemonium at the meeting in Portmore last night, which was presided over by Mayor Leon Thomas. The police had to be called in. Did we set up this meeting for a war between the JLP and the PNP? Are we setting up things for a war for the next elections? The people of this country must not be a part of this war. We have been there before, and we must not go back there. Why was this meeting called, and what was the expected outcome? What were the objectives?

Why did the people attend the meeting? What did they expect to achieve? Please, I would like some responses.

We are here fighting for power for a little 2 x 2 country that has been here for possibly millions of years. We are only here for a short time. This land and the world will still be here after we become part of the dust.

Remember, in 1980, over 800 people lost their lives due to political violence. The poor, suffering old people who lived at the Eventide home were consumed in a fire alleged to have been set by thugs. Many others lost their lives fighting for what they did not even know they were fighting for. Fighting against their brothers and sisters who were dragged here on the same slave ships only to be used as slaves by our colonial masters. Those colonial masters must be laughing in their graves and saying, "I told you those descendants of slaves would be better off as slaves."

Let those who want to fight for power and glory fight for it, but let not the people fight against one another when they have nothing to gain.

All we gained from the 1980 elections were dead bodies. All we will gain from the next elections is the same set of politicians. It does not matter which side of parliament they sit on. Just don't allow them to take you for a 'pappy show'.

I understand that one woman was assaulted during the melee and she could file charges for assault.

JLP Says Opposition Mark Golding Response to PNP/KSAMC Corruption Scandal Disgraceful

JLP Press Release - 20250217
Marlon Morgan

The Jamaica Labour Party finds the response of the PNP President to the PNP/KSAMC Corruption Scandal as contemptuous of the Jamaican people, dismissive, and downright disgraceful; but not altogether surprising.

Golding told a PNP media conference on Thursday last week - “The Mayor has made it clear what exactly the funds were at his disposal and they were deployed and they were deployed in the three divisions that did not have a Councillor. So there is absolutely nothing untoward about this and an attempt to create a scandal where none exists. This is just a distraction.”

Jamaica Labour Party Senior Communication Taskforce Member, Senator Marlon Morgan told a media conference at the Party’s Belmont Road Headquarters on Monday, February 17, 2025 that the response is confirmation that Mark Golding is willing to turn a blind eye to seriously questionable activities at the PNP controlled KSAMC which his party secretariat clearly has knowledge of.

Mr. Morgan stated:

“The unbecoming response from Mark Golding has again confirmed to Jamaica that he is not fit to lead this country. We insist that Mark Golding immediately tell Jamaica whether he has demanded an explanation from his embattled General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell about why Campbell told Lawrence Rowe that the KSAMC was distributing monies strategically in anticipation of the calling of by-elections and hence that’s why some PNP political representatives got more KSAMC resources compared to others.”

Senator Morgan told the media conference that the fact that Golding has not by now fired his General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell and insisted on Campbell’s removal from the ECJ, is further confirmation that Golding is not serious when he claims to support principles of good governance and accountability.

Senator Morgan insisted that Golding must also tell Jamaica whether he has demanded an explanation from a former PNP Councillor, who is now stationed at the KSAMC, about why in a leaked conversation she told a then PNP caretaker to collect cash and that that transaction is NOT for public knowledge.

Senator Morgan further commented:

“The fact that Golding did not see it fit to indicate to the country that he insisted on explanations from Dayton Campbell, Andrew Swaby and Audrey Smith Facey for the questionable comments shows his own contempt for the people of Jamaica. The PNP President clearly feels his party is able to do what it feels and get a free pass. Golding will be held accountable by the Jamaican people for his unacceptable approach to the PNP/KSAMC Corruption Scandal”.
