Jamaica The Land of Love, Not Crime

The Commissioner of Police's confidence is buoyed by the significant decrease this year in major crimes, specifically murders.  Some persons are commending the use of the state of emergencies, while others are condemning its use in the fight against crime. The recent ruling by the court has strengthened that argument.

My position is that we have to try everything, especially considering how long this high crime rate has been going on in this small, beautiful country.

Some criminals are irredeemable because they are no different from the lower class of animals. The only way to deal with that set is to remove them from society.

Any day the police and the citizens get on one side and start working together, that will be the beginning of the end of the crime monster. Citizens must also decide that they will not tolerate any criminal in their communities. The media houses and our leaders must stop putting some of these shady characters on a pedestal.

When the whole country decides that we have had enough of crime in Jamaica, that will be a great day. Is crime just something to talk about politically? Is it just for sensational news?

Crime cannot just be a matter for the police or the government. I must admit, someone has to lead the new movement to help us annihilate those hardened criminals for a start. We must shut down this crime factory.

PNP Says Government Not Above Constitution

Release From The People's National Party, May 16, 2025:

Opposition Leader, Mark Golding

Government Not Above Constitution, PNP Hails Court Ruling on Unlawful Use of SOEs as Win for Justice, Democracy and the Jamaican People

Kingston, Jamaica. May 16, 2025: Today’s landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of Jamaica is a resounding victory for the Constitution, for the rule of law, and for the people of Jamaica. The Court has affirmed what the PNP has long argued: that the multiple and extended use of States of Public Emergency (SOEs) as a routine crime-fighting tool is a violation of the Constitution’s extraordinary emergency powers.

The Government’s unprecedented declaration of 24 SOEs over the period 2018-2023 represented a sustained abuse of an extraordinary executive power under the Constitution and a dangerous erosion of the rights and freedoms of the Jamaican people. The SOE, which is the Constitution’s last-resort mechanism against crises that threaten to subvert the democratic order of the State, was unlawfully deployed by the Government as a tool of routine policing, often incorporating entire parishes and sometimes being renewed without parliamentary oversight.

It is significant that recent statistics reveal a marked decline in murder rates which has been accomplished by targeted law enforcement measures, without recurring SOEs. Jamaica’s long-term security hinges on appropriate policing strategies, robust democratic institutions and community-led solutions, achievable without unconstitutional violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.

The Court’s decision reinforces that no government is permitted to suspend freedoms under the guise of public safety without meeting the constitutional safeguards of necessity, proportionality and parliamentary accountability.

This win belongs to every Jamaican who values justice and constitutional order. The PNP brought this case to defend the constitutional rights and freedoms of the Jamaican people, and because we believe there are ways of successfully overcoming Jamaica‘s problem of violent crime without violating the Constitution. We will remain steadfast in advocating for holistic, rights-respecting strategies to secure our communities and strengthen Jamaica’s democracy system of government.

Prime Minister Holness Strongly Condemns Killing of Policeman in St. Catherine

Press Release From Office of The Prime Minister, May 17, 2025:

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has strongly condemned the attack and murder of police Corporal Kamal Mayne.

Corporal Mayne was killed this morning (May 17) by hoodlums at his home in Old Harbour St. Catherine.

Prime Minister Holness said: "This is a heartbreaking blow to his [Corporal Mayne's] family, his colleagues in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and our entire country.  As a member of the JCF, Corporal Mayne served the people of Jamaica by ensuring our safety."

Prime Minister Holness continued:

"Every day, our policemen and women put themselves in harm’s way to build a more peaceful, more secure Jamaica. The progress we are now seeing, with crime at its lowest levels in decades, has come at great cost. It is a result of strategy, investment, and the tireless work of those who wear the uniform with integrity. We must never take their service for granted, nor ignore the sacrifices they and their families make on behalf of all of us. We must never lose sight of the fact that our officers are human beings, fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, who risk their lives for a safer Jamaica. Corporal Mayne’s life mattered. His service mattered. And his death will not be in vain."

Prime Minister Holness says the government and nation mourn with Corporal Mayne's family and with the JCF.

"I extend my deepest condolences to those who knew and loved him, and I mourn with the brave men and women who continue to serve and protect with courage, even in the face of personal danger."

Corporal Mayne served in the JCF for 20 years.

His last posting was in the Kingston Western police division.

Prime Minister Holness has appealed to anyone with information on Corporal Mayne's killing to provide it to the police.

A Wife Was Traumatized - Could Not Locate Husband at UWI Hospital!

Please listen to the voice of this lady who is very dissatisfied with the UWI Hospital's state.

Click the icon below to listen to the audio.

Apparently, there is a shortage of beds at the UWI. To what extent has the level of crime and the number of accidents on our roads in Jamaica exacerbated the shortage of beds?

Do they have a computerized system to register patients at the UWI? Can the system keep track of patients' location,  treatment given, and medications received?

Have you been to the UWI hospital recently? What has been your experience?

He had just left work late in the evening and boarded a taxi and was heading home. Gunmen struck, and he was hit in the face. His jawbone was broken. When the shots rang out, bystanders ran for their lives, but one brave lady decided to stay behind and help this young man who was bleeding profusely. If the victim was left unattended, he could have bled to death.
