Is This Breaking News?

I just got word that an official was rushed to a private hospital last night and then had to be taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The information reaching Bark Di Trute is that several persons in SUVs with police escort and an ambulance in front went to this private medical facility.

If a state official is very ill, a statement should be given to prevent the circulation of Fake News. We are trying our best to verify this story, but it is not easy to get information.

CONARTI$T Will Mek Yu Laugh Till Yu Pap UP - It Serious Dough

Jamaicans cannot afford to miss this hilarious play CONARTI$t. Theatre veteran Douglas Prout will thrill his audiences with his stimulating comedy, CONARTI$T. There will be two shows. One on Saturday, June 7, at 2:00 pm and the other on Sunday, June 8, at 2 pm.  The play will be staged at Johnny's place, 35 Dunrobin Avenue, in Kingston.

With CONARTI$T, Prout attacks the scamming phenomenon in an explosive and unforgettable manner. With an energetic and highly talented cast, this one delivers an evening of uproarious laughter coupled with a thought-provoking exploration of the prevalent issues of scamming and crime in Jamaica.

How far would you go to exact revenge on someone who hurt your loved ones? “CONARTI$T” examines this question in an offbeat, comedic way when nothing is as simple as it appears.

The story revolves around two self-employed young men who appear to have a thriving operation of illicit activities. One of the young man brings home a young lady he had just met at the movies. He thinks she is another easy victim for their devious plans. Will she be scammed, or fall prey to their evil schemes? Will we as a people come to realize that crime doesn’t pay?

CONARTI$T is guaranteed to have audiences rolling with laughter and sitting on the edge of their seats as the plot unravels to a surprisingly satisfying climax! CONARTI$T is a statement play, with a very strong, unapologetic message.

The talented cast members are Sherika McLeod, Jomo Dixon, Renard Anderson, Michael A.D. Edwards alternating with Javian Kiffin

The play is produced by Bay Vibez Company and directed by Douglas Prout. The Executive Producer is Christina Gonzalez.

You Must Commend These Great Jamaicans!

This reader says thanks to the JPS and to Bark Di Trute for helping to get JPS's light pole fixed. This post was endangering several nearby houses.

Click on the icon below and listen to the Bark Di Trute supporter saying thanks.

A Bark Di Trute Supporter reported to Bark Di Trute that a sick man had been lying in the sun and rain on the sidewalk in Swallowfield near a garage for days. The man was subsequently taken care of.

Bark Di Trute reported the matter to the KSAMC and Father HoLung's group, Missionaries of the Poor. I am not sure which agency assisted in taking care of the man. Click the icon below to listen to the good Jamaican expressing thanks for having this man taken care of.

Click the icon below and watch this video of a lady who assisted a young man who was shot. She probably helped to save his life.

Please add your comments supporting these wonderful and caring Jamaicans. Encourage more people to do good. Oh yes, there are many caring and loving people around. We need to highlight them more.

If someone is doing great things in your community, then send me a story by WhatsApp at (876) 816-5261.

Prime Minister Orders Strengthening of Legislative Framework to Combat Violence Against Women

Press Release From The Office of The Prime Minister, May 19, 2025:

At a meeting of the Cabinet on Monday, May 19, 2025, Prime Minister Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Holness issued a directive to the responsible Ministers to urgently bring forward legislative amendments aimed at strengthening Jamaica’s framework to combat violence against women and girls.

This directive follows growing national concern over recent incidents of gender-based violence and forms part of the Government’s wider strategy to address violence through prevention, protection, and prosecution.

“I have also directed the relevant Ministers to fast-track all pending legislation or policies that could improve the protection and security of our women and girls. Perpetrators should know that the Government and the society speak with one clear voice against violence,” said Prime Minister Holness. “The safety and dignity of every Jamaican woman and girl are paramount. Our laws must reflect the seriousness of these offences and provide meaningful support and protection for survivors.”

Prime Minister Holness further added, “Your government has been working on a comprehensive approach to tackle violence generally in our society, and we now have the report of the National Commission on the Prevention of Violence, which was chaired by Professor Maureen Samms Vaughn. This report will be reviewed by the Cabinet next and thereafter shared with stakeholders and the wider public.”

The Prime Minister also noted that these efforts form part of the broader whole-of-government approach to improving citizen security and upholding the rights of the most vulnerable.

The Government of Jamaica continues to urge all citizens to play an active role in ending violence by supporting survivors, reporting abuse, and promoting a culture of respect and accountability.

Editor

Violence is not just about women and girls. We should deal with violence in a gender-neutral way. The efforts of the police and other government policies have worked. We now need to make the next step. We need to get the people involved in the fight against crime now.

I would love to be a part of this national committee comprising community members across the island to make recommendations to the people and government. Jamaica has become a crime factory since the 1970s, and that factory needs to be closed down now!

$234M Castleton Botanical Gardens Restoration to Boost Climate Resilience and Eco-Tourism

Press Release From The Office of The Prime Minister, May 19, 2025:

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Government Announces $234M Castleton Botanical Gardens Restoration to Boost Climate Resilience and Eco-Tourism

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has announced a major $234 million investment to restore and develop the Castleton Botanical Gardens in the parish of St. Mary.

Castleton Gardens is one of Jamaica’s most historic and treasured green spaces.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Castleton Pipeline Replacement Project on Friday (May 16), Prime Minister Holness said the initiative to restore the botanical gardens forms part of the wider Jamaican Path from Hills to Ocean Project.

The Prime Minister noted that the aim is to address poverty, climate change, and rural development through sustainable landscape management.

“This project is designed to tackle the twin challenges of poverty and climate change through sustainable landscape management. It is about building resilience not only into our physical infrastructure but also into our environmental systems and local economies,” said Prime Minister Holness.

Dr. Holness said that for the 2025–2026 financial year, the Government will allocate $234 million to undertake critical rehabilitation works at the Gardens, including the construction of gabion walls, perimeter fencing, erosion control structures, and the restoration of public amenities such as bathrooms and gazebos.

“These upgrades will ensure that the Gardens can once again serve as a top-tier destination for education, recreation, and ecotourism,” the Prime Minister explained.

The investment also supports the Government’s vision of climate adaptation and rural economic stimulation. Prime Minister Holness noted that the broader initiative is already showing results across the island by incorporating climate-smart agriculture, drone monitoring technology, and ecological assessments into Jamaica’s development strategy.

“This is what transformation looks like when water security, environmental protection, and rural development converge,” he affirmed.

As the Government continues to implement Vision 2030, the revitalization of Castleton Gardens marks a significant milestone in building environmentally resilient and economically vibrant communities across Jamaica.
