Vernon Derby's Post Reached Record Persons!!!

Vernon L. Derby an actor, broadcaster, teacher, consumer advocate and one who has appeared in many radio and TV commercials over the years has made another hit.

Social Media

Vernon has been using social media to assist possible over 5,000 persons who contact him via text messaging and email to assist them. Recently he received the Spotlight Award from the United States Embassy for his work in promoting matters relating to immigration.

Advocacy

His advocacy has meant exerting influence on the business sector and the private sector to initiate things that can impact the people of Jamaica positively.

Community Person

He has been a community persons since he was a child. From the age of about 14 years he has played the organ at churches such as the Litchfield Baptist, the Lowe River United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman, Spalding United Church of Jamaica and the Caribbean, the Catholic Church in Christiana and St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Harbour View.

At UTECH he was the student leader in charge of all the cultural groups and campus and these groups performed across the island and also on television.

Teacher

While he was a teacher at Papine Secondary and also while living in the Papine Area he was involved in promoting young talents in that area. Many of these persons have become well known nationally and internationally. He was also involved in the Tastee Talent Competition for many years as a judge, MC, talent coach and scouting for talent across the island.

Performer
Vernon has appeared in many plays and also the National Pantomimes and he was also a member of the NDTC Singers. Vernon was also one of the original members of Father HoLung's singing group.

Served His Country

Vernon is a board member of at the Jamaica Cultural Developming Commission, the Consumer Affairs Commission and also the Institute of Jamaica Programmes Coordination Division. While being Chairman of the Festival Song Competition in 2018 he helped to build back the competition which was cancelled to previous years. The competition got record entries, probably the most professional performers to perform the top ten songs and the largest group every to perform in the competition.
