A broke pocket country like Jamaica lacking in resources for our health and other sectors may need to evacuate it's citizens from China. How to, presents lots of logistic and cost implications.First is the number of Jamaicans are all over China and how many want to leave in face of an ongoing corona virus crisis. How to?We need to negotiate immediately with other well endowed countries to do some joint action.Any do it alone method will take months if not years perhaps or until if the virus has run its course.
I Spoke to someone in China not in Wuhan they indicate that information is scant and have to depend on the outside world to have a clear picture as there is also the language barrier and in a command economic and social environment information is controlled. If it continues they will/may begin to block What's app/social media or affect their efficiency while not blocking it outright to balance global imagery.
For example don't be surprised if when they say 1000 anything it's really 10000.To evacuate our own one has to work closely with those who have done it or are doing it.Arrange temporary American, Russian, French or Australian Nationality perhaps at a cost won't be as expensive as list lives and livelihoods. That's pragmatism from outside the box should be considered. Now we see the importance of having a Air Jamaica we could try a thing if allowed.
When all is said and done China is better able to deal with this virus outbreak than us and those persons in China may well be better off staying put taking necessary precautions and riding out the crisis.Building a hospital in less than 10 days is phenomenal while they embark on building another. With 360 dead in China while significant is a tiny percentage of 1.3 billion population.Do we have even enough masks ,other protective clothing for frontline workers or areas to quarantine suspects or the infected.Adequate public education is also needed.
