Enough Talk, Action Now!!!

Terrorists At Work

With the kind of terrorism  that is now being unleashed on our country, one wonders how long it will take for us to have some major short term and long term plans to deal with the horrible crimes being committed in Jamaica. Too often we hear about missing persons, persons being murdered, children being abused and the list goes on.  This country continues to get speeches, speeches and more speeches and little or no action!

The people seem to have become numb to all of this and we only wake up sometimes when a beautiful lady, a talented person or a well known person is murdered.

Natalie Dawkins Abducted?

We have not yet come to grips with the gruesome murder of Khanice Jackson who was

Natalie Dawkins

allegedly murdered by a 50 year old man and now we are hearing of another report of a missing teacher in Clarendon, Natalie Dawkins. This teacher's house was broken into and now she cannot be found since yesterday. She taught at the Four Paths Primary and Junior High School.

Time For Action

Mr. Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Parliamentarians and people of Jamaica, the time to act is now! We need to have a National Emergency Commission to deal with corruption, crime and the high level of indiscipline in the country. This Commission should be put in place as early as possible and should be empowered with the responsibility of getting ideas from professional persons and from citizens on how to deal with this level of corruption, crime and indiscipline in Jamaica.

I am willing to go on this Commission and I would encourage other persons who have a passion and interest in changing this country to be a part of this Commission. The aim of this Commission would be to look at all aspects of national life, and based on the reports of professionals attached to the Commission and citizens, the Commission would recommend actions to be taken which will impact positively on all areas of national life.

The Commission could cover areas such as:

  • Family life
  • Governance in the Private & Public Sector.
  • Improving The Judicial System
  • Aligning The Educational System With Our Future Needs
  • Changing bad cultural practices
  • Crime
  • Reducing Indiscipline In The Society

Where studies have been done in some areas previously and these studies are relevant, then the Commission should use these studies.

The Commission could set up separate committees to deal with special areas. The overall aim of the Commission would be to guide the country to become a disciplined and orderly society where there is a high level of transparency and accountability.  The recommendations of the Commission would be canvassed among the electorate and then parliament would vote on the various recommendations. This would mean changes to our constitutions, our laws and generally changes to how we do business as a nation. The work of the Commission could take place over a three year period and it's recommendations would be made on a quarterly basis.

Citizens Must Be Empowered to Protect Themselves

In the meantime the state cannot have police officers everywhere to protect us and we must be able to protect ourselves. Criminals have guns so why it is not made easier for decent citizens to acquire guns and pepper spray to protect themselves? If the criminals knew that many responsible citizens have guns they would think twice. Those who have guns and have been trained, could become part of a National Reserve Police Service.

Our people have had enough. We have suffered enough while criminals roam the streets and some are behind bars producing hit songs and being a burden to the society. We continue to lose our lives at the hands of murderers. We talk about murderers having the right to live, while decent Jamaicans are now wondering if we have a right to live?
