One of my supporters asked if he can start with one brand of Covid-19 vaccine and then take another brand for the second dose?
President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Jamaica gives the following answer:
Dr. Winsome Christie President Pharmaceutical Association of Jamaica |
No not to be mixed it’s is highly recommended by the CDC (Centre for Disease Control )to stick to the same brand. A case in point and I quote, "In the U.S. where vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are being distributed, health officials say the two aren’t interchangeable even though they’re made similarly".
If for some reason the second dose of the same Brand is not available, then and I also quote from he CDC In “exceptional situations” when the same kind isn’t available or if it’s not known what was given for the first shot, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in recently updated guidance that it’s OK to give whichever vaccine is available for the second shot.
