Bob insisted that our Cuban exploration wouldn't be complete without delving into the touristy side of the island, and Varadero was the perfect place for it. This coastal gem showcased a more contemporary Cuba, boasting high-rise five-star hotels that reminded me of our own North Coast resorts.
The scenic drive to Varadero led us through bustling towns and other tourist hotspots, offering us glimpses of daily life in Cuba. We made a pit stop for some Cuban coffee and a quick restroom break. Along the way, we couldn't help but notice the gigantic pineapples, neatly lined up like a row of pretty maids, a testament to the island's rich agriculture.
Finally, we arrived in Varadero, and there is no need for lengthy descriptions—the pictures we took captured its beauty perfectly. The crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches left us awestruck. One minor drawback was that our Cuban driver couldn't join us in the water, but he was welcome to share in the delightful lunch we enjoyed.
The meal was another culinary masterpiece, served with prompt and excellent service. However, I couldn't help but notice the absence of black-skinned waitstaff, which left me wondering if I had overlooked them.
As we reluctantly departed Varadero, we were excited about our next stop—the infamous Al Capone's house, now transformed into an upscale restaurant with a beachside view. We strolled through the corridors of this historic mansion, taking in the atmosphere,.
With the sun, sea, and delicious food having exhausted us, we returned to our rooms to rest. But the evening held one more treat in store for us—the grand birthday dinner for Nicole at Solo 8. It was a perfect way to cap off a day filled with unforgettable experiences and family celebrations. Let's celebrate this remarkable journey in Cuba for just a little while longer.
