Why, oh why, do Jamaican pastors and preachers seem so overwhelmed by the presence of so-called "important" people at funerals? To the point where these VIPs are given preferential treatment in the welcome, even above the grieving family? It's not just distasteful; it's a blatant lack of respect for the bereaved.
Why should these "executives" be welcomed and ushered in ahead of the grieving mother, daughter, brothers, and other family members? Is it because they might set up a foundation? Is it all about money even in the end?
We should never have to grovel to these individuals. I call shame upon those pastors who persist in this practice. Even if it's the Prime Minister, the family should always come first – their grief, their loss, and their love should be the priority at that moment.
