Violet Edwards gained her associate degree at the age of 96 in 2022. From all indications, she is the first Jamaican to gain her associate degree at that age. She is one of the few persons in the world at that age and older to gain a degree.

This was first highlighted on  Bark Di Trute when former talk show host Joan Williams brought this to Vernon Derby's attention. The news about this feat spread like wildfire on international news networks.

The partnership between SpotOn and family members, led by her son-in-law Everett Smith, resulted in the offer of scholarships valued over JAD4.5 million to four UWI students.

The good news continues. Everett Smith called me recently to inform me that a decision was made to ask guests at his wife's birthday party to make donations to the Violet Edwards Scholarships rather than take presents to the party. This decision means more students will benefit from the Violet Edwards Scholarship Fund.
