It Feels Good to Help a Cop - Support Our Good Police Officers

A police officer contacted me today, Friday, January 12, 2024, regarding a matter involving an insurance company. It was becoming a tough fight for this officer dealing with his wife who needed an emergency operation - it was a tougher fight than fights he has had with criminals - it was a fight for his wife's life. Unless the hospital got a commitment letter from the insurance company, his wife would not have the operation.

The police officer visited the insurance company's office a few times and was getting the runaround. After seven days, there was still no progress as far as he was concerned. Out of desperation, he called me from the insurance company office. The officer later told me that I just crossed his mind, and he decided to call me. The staff members at that company did not understand the dilemma that this police officer was in. They did not understand that serving people is not just a job - your inaction can destroy a life.

I was hopping mad when I heard the police officer's story. I advised the policeman to address a letter to the insurance company head. I told the police officer to copy me on the letter. I called the president's office immediately. The staff member who answered the phone in the president's office seemed reluctant to give the president's email address. I explained to her that any customer should be able to have access to the president of the organization. I explained that the email address is the company's email address and not the president's personal email address.

Of course, there are times when I do forget to be nice because in Jamaica, it is sometimes mistaken for weakness. I told the staff at the insurance office what I would do if the matter was not dealt with expeditiously. I calmly explained this was an emergency. I must admit those persons in the president's office showed compassion.

I heard from the frustrated police officer later in the afternoon when he left the insurance company's office. I immediately became the Commissioner of Police and instructed him to return to the office and get the names of all those who dealt with him. I told him to tell the staff that he would only leave once he spoke with the president. I told him to follow the president to her car and seek an answer from her.

The good news is that when he returned to the insurance company, staff members were aware of his challenge. They understood that the matter was urgent. The officer's final word to me was that he was assured hat the matter was on the president's desk and was being dealt with.

I had my own challenges, and I did not even start to deal with those challenges. due to my involvement in dealing with this matter for the police officer. I end up misplacing my pouch. The pouch had my cash, credit cards, licences, and other documents. I went to where I was sitting at the Constant Spring Tax Office, where I saw it on the ground laughing at me. I had to rush to the Constant Spring Police Station and return to the tax office. I must tell you, expect to get top-class service at the Constant Spring Police Station.

It has been a long day - it is time to go to bed.

It is now Saturday morning, January 13, my phone is ringing. It was the police officer on the line. He said, "The hospital received the commitment letter from the insurance company". Thanks Mr Derby.

Thanks to all those at the insurance company who helped. Thanks specifically to the president.

Thank you for reading this blog to the end  - a blog that is not about sex or about juicy gossip. It is about someone who needs help. It shows that you do care. Let us pray and hope that his wife who has a tumour on her brain, survives. Have a great day and thanks for supporting this blog which is making a difference for people.

Note: The insurance company's name was deliberately withheld. A few staff members and their president saved them from bad publicity.
