Robert Pickersgill |
The Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding spent some fun time with members of the media and other members of the party today. It was good music, good food, good liquor and good comradeship.
I must note that both parties always have parties for the journalists who work tirelessly to get information to the public and provide valuable feedback to those who seek state power. It would be a good thing if the private sector, the churches and the professional organizations engaged media workers in a similar way that the political parties do.
Probably that is why there seems to be more talk in the media about political matters and other matters do not take centre stage.
I had a chat with the former PNP Minister and the man they dubbed Chairman for Life, Robert Pickersgill. I must say that although he is retired and is not as fit as he used to be - he looks much better.

ReplyDeleteWell said👹
ReplyDeleteNo. I guarantee you if the church were to fete the media it would stir up another bag of criticism about how they use their money. Maybe even party goers like you would join in.
ReplyDeleteThe poor-poor church - damned if you do, damned if u don't.

ReplyDeleteMany in the public would question whether this is appropriate at all - feting of the media by political parties! But we undertand that media practitioners would want to be known and recognised by and have rapport with the political leadership, which I assume would possibly improve their access to interviews, tips and quotes in future for their stories. But the political community is betting on the well recognised fact that there is nothing like accepting food or gifts from someone and of course the shared drinking of alcohol to induce a face sense of comeraderie.and pf course a sense of obligation. So where does this leave the public I wonder?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. How does such a person maintain their integrity?
DeleteTo be corrupt is a personal decision which one makes.
DeleteThat should be "false sense"
ReplyDeleteSome of these responses show clearly that there is very little trust in media persons and others. Let me make it clear, I am happy to receive gifts, presents, and congratulations from anyone but if you believe that your gifts will buy me out you lick your head. I am also concerned that we elect the politicians and yet we hate them so much. Mark my word, any fault that you find with a politician you will find it with anyone out there. If for example, you think that only politicians can be corrupt then you are living in a fool's paradise.
ReplyDeleteIf one is a corrupt person, paying them more salaries, or putting down rules as to what they should or should not do will not change the corrupt philosophy which is embedded in their hearts.
