SSP Steve McGregor Exits the JCF after 41 Years!

SSP Steve McGregor

Thursday, January 11, 2024, will be SSP Steve McGregor's last day in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). It has been an outstanding career in the JCF based on the feedback that I have had from people.

Many saw him as the extension of the good citizen. Why this outstanding cop was not appointed to the position of Commissioner of Police? This man won the hearts of the Jamaican people. The people would have given him strong support as a Commissioner. We might never know the reason.

I had the daunting experience of travelling around town with him and his men one morning. We visited some of the areas with high crime rates. I did a live broadcast for Riddim FM while being embedded with his team for the morning. We went to Central Kingston, Jones Town, and Tivoli - just to name a few areas. I got a first-hand view of the challenges police officers faced. At the beginning of the tour, I heard a few gunshots, but these were not close to the team.

Steve McGregor not only knew the areas well, he knew the people, and they also knew and loved him. He was warmly greeted like a star wherever he went. I am sure the criminals were not around to greet him because he seemed to drive fear into their hearts.

I came away from that tour with plenty of respect for the police. Thanks to Al Robinson, the head of Riddim FM for supporting the tour. While on that tour, I learnt that Steve McGregor is a relative of Freddie McGregor, a talented Jamaican singer.

You served well, my friend. You are ready to serve in another capacity. Yes, you are ready. You still look like a young man, you still have the energy. I know you can lead. Whenever you are called to lead, I hope you heed it the call. You have served the JCF well for 41 years....yu no done yet!
