NEWS FLASH - Scammers Stealing WhatsApp Accounts!

 

The scammers are at it again and this time they are using WhatsApp. They are able to use the identity of one of your contacts to communicate with you. Recently I got a WhatsApp message from Professor Trevor Munroe indicating that he needed two thousand dollars. I assumed it was JAD2,000 but a check with the scammer indicated that it was USD2,000. I said this sound like a mad man and I am not aware of Professor Trevor Munroe going crazy.

I contacted Prof. Munroe and he was aware of his name being used to solicit funds. I am therefore advising you all to be careful.

Consider the following suggestions:

1. Make a non-WhatsApp call to your contact if you get a message stating that your security code with that person has been changed. 
2. Archive the conversation between you and the person who seem to be a scammer.
3. Send the archived conversation to yourself so that you have a record of the conversation.
4. Report the matter to your phone company immediately. 
5. Report the matter to the police.
6. If you are giving your phone to be repaired, backup your phone data and wipe  all data from phone. Remove the sim card. Do not allow the repair person to take your phone out of your sight. They can download your contacts information and access banking and other information on your phone while repairing you phone.
7. Do not transfer funds to anyone unless you have ensured that you know the person to whom the money is to transfered to. Note that with AI technology the voice of someone you know can be cloned.
