Saharan Dust to Move Across Jamaica Starting Wednesday

Press Release from The Meteorological Office - 2024/06/24:

A wave of the Saharan Dust layer currently across the central Caribbean is expected to impact Jamaica, starting Wednesday morning.

Satellite images have shown that a very thin layer of dust drifted from the Eastern Caribbean into the central Caribbean today, and is now moving into the western Caribbean.

The dust mass, which is not as thick as previous ones, is expected to begin moving across the island Wednesday morning and will remain across the island until about Thursday mid-day when a Tropical Wave is expected to move into the vicinity of the island.

The arrival of the Saharan dust layer is not unusual across the Caribbean as this weather phenomenon happens every year between May and October. The plumes are usually short-lived, lasting no more than a week. In fact, a plume moved across the island late last week and into Monday.

We are aware of the images on social media regarding the Saharan Dust layer and questions are being asked about how it compares to the event in June 2020. This is not of a similar magnitude and the hazy conditions will be short lived with the greatest concentrations just south of the island.

Note: Due to the presence of suspended Saharan Dust particles in the forecast, out of extreme caution, people who have asthma, allergies or other respiratory illnesses should take the necessary precautionary measures.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.

Kingston has a brown layer of plumes rising over it everyday....it's visible from the hills of st.catherine and it's coming from the dump mountain landform being created at riverton schitty....the name mount riverton actually sounds good....we can get the geology and geography students to out the specs....

So when will the brain less ....visionless busy bodies at the MOE stop chending and adjust the school year...school hours and make school buildings fit for the ravages of nature through climate change....this must be a foundation for the trending pillars.
