Press Release From The JLP - 20241001
The Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr |
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is slamming as desperate and an abuse of process an attempt by Opposition Leader, Mark Golding to move a motion in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Attorney-at-law and South East Clarendon Member of Parliament Pearnel Charles Jnr. says the motion which the Opposition Leader attempted to table is also out of order.
"The sub-judice rule and standing orders of the parliament prevent matters that are actively being considered by the Court to be subject to discussion or debate in the parliament. Additional rules which also guide the operations of parliament make it clear that a motion which pertains to an issue that is before the Court and is to be adjudicated upon should not be countenanced by way of tabling in Parliament", Mr. Charles Jnr. commented
In further underscoring the point, Mr. Charles Jnr. noted that Erskine May: Parliamentary Practice is clear that "the House has resolved that no matter awaiting or under adjudication by a Court of law should be brought before it by way of a motion or otherwise".
These rules are necessary to protect the integrity of judicial proceedings and to prevent any potential inteference with the legal process, Charles Jnr. reiterated.
Mr. Charles Jnr says the attempt by the Opposition PNP to move an out of order motion to disparage Prime Minister Holness while he is overseas representing Jamaica with distinction further underscores their desperate and increasingly inappropriate thirst for political power.
Charles Jnr says he is confident that the people of Jamaica will reject the move by the Opposition to abuse the processes of Parliament to achieve their vile and partisan objectives.

That move by the opposition leader is not of ignorance but of desperation. A desperate man is a dangerous man, especially one that is desperate for power. We need to look at the character of the persons who are putting themselves forward to represent us. Let us put aside political affiliations and decide if their characters reflect that they are fit and proper to represent us; because those we elect are reflections of us.
THERE SEEMS TO BE A DOUBLE STANDARD IN OUR SYSTEM. I have seen many politicians since this government is in office have to step a side for way less than what is happening with the PM. So what's the maneuvering about.
Correct. Look left and look right look left again. And given how we drive look right again.
