MP Robert Miller Seeks Help From JPS to Deal With Frequent Power Outages

Press Release From Robert Miller MP for South East St. Catherine - 20241004

Member of Parliament for South East St. Catherine, the  Jamaica Labour Party's Robert Miller, is calling on the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) to immediately address apparent system glitches or technical difficulties which are causing frequent interruptions in the supply of electricity in his constituency and other communities in Portmore.

"Since Tuesday afternoon I have been overwhelmed by calls and messages from concerned and agitated constituents across South East St. Catherine due to the frequent power interruptions in quick succession. My constituents are alarmed and agitated at this time as they are mindful of fire and other electricity-related safety hazards any systemic glitch or technical malfunction may present. My constituents and stakeholders are also concerned about their domestic appliances and commercial equipment which are susceptible to considerable damage as a result of the frequent back-to-back service interruptions and overall instability in electricity surges", Mr. Miller stated.

MP Miller says while there is a provision in place to provide redress to any aggrieved JPS customer, he considers prevention to be better than redress as grievance and complaints procedures often come at considerable inconvenience to customers, who may have to contend with lengthy delays in getting compensation in the event of JPS-occasioned losses.

The South East St. Catherine MP is also renewing calls for the JPSCo to reopen its Portmore office as a means of greater convenience and more accessible service delivery to his constituents and other stakeholders across Portmore.

MP is right on the money. The power in the area is constantly blinking as jf in preparation for Christmas. We fear for our appliances and computers. JPS stop punishing the people.

This is surely not an isolated case, I live in Goshen, St. Elizabeth and yesterday alone there were at least three outages within minutes apart!!! This is indeed a double whammy for the residents this is the third consecutive day without water and not a word from NWC, none that I'm aware of!!!
