BBC HardTalk To Go!

Stephen Sackur

The BBC HardTalk was made famous in Jamaica by Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding's response to having a gay man in his cabinet. Bruce responded to the question saying, "Not in my cabinet".

Based on my information, the show will end in March 2025.

Small Nuclear Reactors

The news is that companies plan to use small nuclear reactors (SNR) to produce electricity for data centres which will facilitate the use of AI. Will Jamaica work with another country to keep us abreast of the technology?

Can these small nuclear reactors be used to reduce the cost of electricity in Jamaica? Will it be better for us to import more electrical equipment which uses solar energy?

Children at Adult Show

This evening I watched an adult show and there in the front row was a family with their little girl who looked three years old or younger. She was enjoying all the adult sex jokes with her parents. I thought of calling the police but did not, because their hands are full. The last time I made a report to the police and various agencies about a child locked up in a car, I was completely ignored. BPO What Next?

With the rapid development of technology and the use of artificial technology, we need to change how we do business in Jamaica if we are going to remain competitive in the world. The BPO sector, for example, could become a thing of the past.

With these developments, our current education system will become irrelevant in preparing young people for the world.

Cashless Society

We will be moving towards a cashless society. Have we started to prepare for that? How is the development of our National Identification system going? The Prime Minister was in India recently and he was exposed to India's cashless system. The National Identification System will be important in a cashless society.

JPS Needed in Manchioneal, Portland

Residents in Manchioneal say there is a dangerous high-tension wire on the ground. This needs to be removed as soon as possible. Is the police and the Fire Brigade Service aware of this?

This Life Certificate

The government needs to devise an improved system to verify if pensioners are alive or not. Pensioners have to find a JP every quarter to sign these life certificates to collect their NIS pension or government pension.

I agree with the Pensioner. An annual certificate should suffice. This country seems to operate, by default, on corruption. So, the Government does not really want to pay our Pensions, so it tries to make the process as difficult as possible. It had no.oriblem collecting our NIS payments and whatever else was required to be eligible for a Pension, upon retirement. Many Pensioners may have chronic diseases or mobility challenges and do not need the Government to add to their wies.
