Can We Work Closer With Other Islands?
To what extent can we partner with the Cayman Islands? We partner with Cuba in dealing with our health sector, although this is frowned on by our friends up north. Have we explored how our neighbours can work with us more closely? First, we need to encourage travel between our islands in the Caribbean. We therefore need to reduce the cost of airfare to these countries. Is this possible? Do we have cultural exchanges with our neighbours?
Cayman Islands and Crime
Man Stabbed
Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) officers responded to an emergency call just after 2:10 AM reporting a man with stab wounds on Mary Street.
Findings so far indicate that the stabbing occurred near the junction of Mary Street and Shedden Road. A suspect is now in custody.
Anyone with information can submit it anonymously through the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or via the RCIPS website www.rcips.ky.
Men Charged With Murder
Two West Bay men, ages 24 and 41, have been formally charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at Centennial Towers on February 22.
The charges stem from an incident that took place around 2:00 AM last Saturday when police responded to reports of gunfire at the West Bay shopping plaza. According to investigators, two men entered the Centennial Towers parking lot on foot from the direction of Boggy Sands and opened fire at two individuals.
Robbery
A 28-year-old man from North Side was arrested following the robbery that took place on Friday, 21 February, at Latin Taste restaurant on Mary Street in George Town.
Attempted Murder
The 22-year-old man who was arrested in relation to the attempted murder of a security guard at a construction site over the weekend has been charged by the police with attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The man appeared before the court yesterday, Monday, 24 February, where he was remanded in custody and scheduled to return on 7 Mar.
Concerns About Appointment
The report from Grand Cayman is that the UPM government has replaced the conservation council with political appointees. This body is responsible for protecting the environment. First we should understand whether in Grand Cayman or any country in the world, where governments make appointments, these are political appointments. What is desired is that the people appointed to positions have the necessary skill sets to make certain decisions. If they don't, they should have others do the assessment for them.
There is a tendency in many countries to undermine the democratic process by saying people are politically appointed. It is the right of the government to make certain appointments. What matters is if competent persons are appointed. It makes no sense to have a democratic society where the people elect their leaders and the leaders are mere figureheads.

It is sad Missa D that many of those crimes have alleged connections to The Irie Criminals Paradise of the Caribbean.
