I did a course in Agr Marketing and Production in the USA time ago. Being exposed to their science and technology. On completion, I had less fear of America's Military power than their Agricultural prowess.
Jamaica unlike the USA does not have a SEED BANK like they do, nor a SPERM BANK to preserve our indigenous DNA material for humans and plants.
That is Agricultural/genetic pragmatism/Imperialism at its highest. A country like Jamaica could become addicted and inextricably bound or enslaved to America, China, Russia or other country.
Jamaica is replete with THE ACTN3 GENE that predisposes Jamaicans to having fast-twitch muscles responsible for Jamaica being a global Sprinting Powerhouse.
In a few years I bet Chinese will start winning sprints. They started getting better after the Bejing Olympics August 2008, I took note.
Did they get some of Bolt and other Jamaican indigenous genetic material to clone?
Jamaica has about 80% of its population with the ACTN3 Gene that no other country's population comes even close. Could we cultivate and export ACTN3 genetic material?
In addition, Jamaica needs a seed bank now.

Interesting observation! The powers that be aren't interested in such matters as the reins of power and wealth accumulation are foremost in their minds. Their visions are limited to their presumed legacy or lack thereof. The athletic bodies are even more shortsighted and I dare say, neither group are astute enough to build the foundation for the future development of the inherent talent that is a part of the Jamaican DNA! They're satisfied with inconsistency and the possibility of the next star. Not knowing such stars are to be nurtured and developed continually and deliberately.

Jamaica needs an independent Sports Commission like the Electoral Commission that directs Sports activities and national beneficial programs.
That's an idea a duly constituted body not staffed by shortsighted political hacks.The New Jamaica Sports Development Commission (NJSDC).

ReplyDeleteMany national leaders follow this blog. We need to share these blogs with more people in academia. We need to hear more from them. Our scientists, engineers, and others are too quiet at these tertiary institutions.
ReplyDeleteAs the first female VP for CASE, I can assure you that there was germplasm stored at that academic institution. Athletic germplasm would be better stored at UHWI or similar institutions.
