Fighting Health Challenges

Vernon

It is part of life that one will have health challenges, and when it starts, you will find it is not one thing but two or three. Once again, I will remind the men to do their annual checks to ascertain the condition of their prostate. If you are from a family with a high incidence of prostate cancer, then you should start doing the required tests from the age of 40 to 45. Prostate cancer will give you no warning in the early stages. If you get a warning, then it could be the beginning of big problems.

Thanks to the Hon. Professor Errol Morrison, who just inquired about how I was keeping and who told me I should come to see him.  If I had not seen him then, I would have been singing 'Lord, I am coming home' a long time ago.

I remember when I first saw the JAD 4 million bill for the operation, I was not worried about the cancer taking me out but about the high bill.

One has to do numerous tests when one has certain prostate issues. Biopsy, MRI, bone scan, two ultrasounds, ECG, and numerous blood tests.  The cost of these tests so far is approximately JAD .5 million. In the middle of all these tests, you realize that there are kidney challenges, and you need to see a nephrologist.

This weekend, the result of another test showed a significant drop in my haemoglobin levels. Friday night, December 5, I had to head for the emergency section of the hospital because it was suspected that I had internal bleeding. This week, there will be more tests, and I will see the nephrologist. They have to find out what is happening before I am ready for the operation in January or February 2026.

You will notice that I have not written any articles from Friday until now. This is because I was dealing with my health issues.

Thanks to those who continue to give me support. I really appreciate it. Someone said to me today that I should stop taking on these things for people. The work I do keeps me alive. I enjoy doing it; therefore, hopefully, I will die doing it with a smile on my face.

Dervan Malcolm

Derval Malcolm
Past students from Calabar and others want to make contact with the relatives of Dervan Malcolm. Dervan was a well-loved radio personality. It would be great if his family keep his fans abreast of what and how he is doing.

Dervan just came off the air without any announcement, and many people had to rely on my blogs to keep them abreast of how he was doing. I no longer have any contact with him.

The Hon. Dr Horace Chang is Still In the Hospital

Hon. Dr Horace Chang
Recently, OPM reported that Deputy Prime Minister Horace Chang went into the hospital for an elective surgery. Reports are that he is still in the hospital, and he is not looking hot. Let's pray for his early recuperation. There are two other cabinet members who, I understand, are also having health challenges.

Many of us believe that politics is living the life of the idle rich. It is far from that. It can be a stressful occupation. When did the PM take his last break?

Remember that we all have to take good care of ourselves. Our health is our wealth.
