JLP Press Release - July 15, 2026
Minister Desmond McKenzie
West Kingston Member of Parliament Desmond McKenzie is rejecting as false a news report aired on July 14, 2026, at 5:00pm on Radio Jamaica which alleged that he "visited the Darling Street Police Station with a crowd", when an incident where a pepper spray was discharged by a member of the security forces took place.
Mr. McKenzie wishes to make it clear that the incident involving the pepper spray took place at the intersection of Darling Street, Bustamante Highway and Spanish Town Road, which is NOT where the Police Station is located.
Contrary to the allegation made on the referenced newscast, at no time did Mr. McKenzie visit a Police Station with a crowd. The West Kingston MP views the alleged conduct as adversarial and irresponsible.
Mr. McKenzie is constrained to put out a public statement refuting the false allegation due to the fact that an attempt to have Radio Jamaica act honourably by publishing a retraction, which is given equal prominence as the inaccurate reportage, failed.
