New pet import rules take effect on October 1 in Grand Cayman
The Cayman Islands will introduce revised requirements for importing dogs and cats from October 1, 2026, including changes to rabies testing, prohibited dog breeds, and health certificates.
The Department of Agriculture (DoA), under the Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure, said the updated Conditions Governing the Importation of Dogs and Cats into the Cayman Islands are intended to streamline the import process and provide greater clarity for pet owners, veterinarians, airlines, importers, and other stakeholders.

Businessman to be sued for car not delivered
Davion Wright of One Stop Auto Boutique, who faces nine charges in an alleged car import scam, is also facing a civil lawsuit from a customer who claims he paid CI$12,000 for a vehicle that was never delivered and has yet to receive a refund.
Wright recently appeared in court on nine charges, where he pleaded not guilty and is expected to stand trial.
Strengthening the maritime sector
The Cayman Islands is moving to strengthen the governance of its maritime sector through a newly structured framework aimed at improving coordination, regulatory compliance, and opportunities within the blue economy.
Premier and Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, Hon. André M. Ebanks, highlighted the initiative in a statement marking World Maritime Day 2026, which was observed on Thursday, September 24.
Ebanks said Cayman’s connection to the sea remains fundamental to its economy, communities, and way of life. The maritime sector facilitates the movement of food, fuel and other essential goods, while supporting international trade, tourism, employment, and business opportunities.
New Grand Court judge appointed

Mark Phillips KC has been appointed a judge of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and will sit in the Financial Services Division from November 2, 2026.
Governor Jane Owen announced the appointment on Friday following a recruitment process by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. Phillips will fill the vacancy arising from the retirement of Justice Nicholas Segal on 20 October
