I am very concerned that a doctor has spent JAD306,000 to purchase solar equipment sometime in June 2026, and he is still not a satisfied customer. The matter has been reported to the Consumer Affairs Commission. Dr. Young wanted the tribunal at the CAC to deal with the matter but the tribunal has not yet been appointed.
See the complaint below:
This statement concerns JMD$306,000 paid to Mr. Ainsley Lawrence (DBA CellTech Electronics Sales & Services, Shop #3C. Leader’s Plaza, Nashville, Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica -876. 426. 6174) to purchase a Pecron solar generator and for the installation of the warrantied unit. The amount also covered an android box, set-up and installation of that device on my television.
On June 27th 2026, I paid Mr Lawrence the amount of JMD$306,000 by wire transfer from my JMMB account to his JMMB account, as he had provided it to me.
The solar generator and the android box were ordered because Mr. Lawrence solicited me, stating that he could obtain locally a solar generator for me to forestall me ordering one from overseas which I had stated to him was my intention. According to Mr. Lawrence he had a friend who supplied solar generators to official and private entities in Jamaica, and he stated that he would contact this individual and get me specifications , including price/s on locally available solar generators.
He later made contact, initially reporting that his friend had 2 solar generators.
After looking at the units sent for review and discussing my needs, we agreed that the Pecron unit was my best option.
Mr. Lawrence says he again contacted his friend, who agreed to sell me the solar generator at a price of JMD$290,000. With the anticipated android box and its installation he billed me JMD$306,000, which was paid to his account.
We had discussed the ongoing, minimally performing Amazon Firestick Mr. Lawrence had earlier sold me and installed on my television when he installed the flat-screen television at my apartment late last year.
Mr Lawrence stated that he was convinced that the only solution to the issues I had with the Firestick was to replace that device with an updated Android box.
He agreed to load and install the android box when it arrived. Indicating that he was sure it would be here by Wednesday (July 01, 2026) or so.
On the 27th of June, Mr. Lawrence, after receiving the transfer of my money, took a Pecron F3000LFP Battery station to my apartment. He hooked up the unit and left.
The following day I noticed some peculiarities with how the unit had performed and contacted him.
Mr. Lawrence came to my home, he checked the unit, was able to make one minor adjustment and indicated that he would contact the supplier/ seller of the unit to get further information about the continuing issue and get back to me.
He assured me then that the unit did not have an app to facilitate function. That turned out to be untrue. The Pecron solar battery backup system that he sold me does have an app that is easily downloaded from the app store.
Given the ongoing concerns with the unit and the new fact that it was unable to keep my Starlink modem actively charged for more than an hour and a half, I again contacted Mr. Lawrence and requested assistance.
This time he refused to make contact and only responded when I indicated that I would take legal action to get the situation rectified.
The situation was not rectified and so on July 3rd 2026 I returned the unit to Mr. Lawrence’s shop with the isntructions for him to simply return my funds.
Later that day Mr. Lawrence called me to state that he had contacted the seller and would be meeting with them on or about 3:00 p.m. to address the situation.
He stated that he would make contact with me after that meeting.
No contact was made.
On Monday July 6th, 2026, I again sent Mr. Lawrence a message via whatsapp instructing him to simply return my funds. I gave him the recipient JMMB bank account number.
Sometime later Mr. Lawrence called to lament having done the business with me and to accuse me of apparently wasting his time in the past by asking him to do work that had not been completed for me by other technicians. The irony here is that this is completely a misrepresentation of the facts. I had to call other technicians in the past to complete work that Mr. Lawrence started (installing solar surveillance cameras) because he was unable to complete the task, left promising to return later to finish up, failed to do so and refused to answer the phone when I called him. This was also the same time that he insisted that the solution to the issues he was having with the cameras he was unable to install was for me to purchase and expensive over JMD$100,000) I-phone. It turns out that this was not the correct solution to any of the issues with the cameras Mr. Lawrence had failed to install. None-the-less because of the individual that initially recommended him to me I continued to give him the benefit of the doubt, particularly after speaking to the referring party(ies).
Mr. Lawrence did send several still photos and transferred what he stated were messages (I presume) from the seller, which he says demonstrated that the unit was working to specifications.
I had already told Mr. Lawrence and his staff when I took the unit back to his office in Mandeville what I wanted done with my money.
Bearing in mind that the Wednesday had passed and nothing had been said about the android box or installing, etc the unit.
I again reiterated my wishes regarding my funds to Mr. Lawrence. He spoke of restocking fees and waiting for the unit to be resold as somehow linked to the return of my money.
He had provided me with a receipt.
Nothing about restocking fees or waiting for the reselling of the unit was on the receipt.
On Wednesday, July 8th at 14:12 hours a message from the number I have for Mr. Lawrence, saying that (my) tv box and solar generator were at some office waiting for pick-up.
I reiterated in message form what I had already instructed Mr. Lawrence to do regarding the return of my funds.
To date I have no specific indications of the return of my monies.
Please address this matter so that Mr. Lawrence returns all of the money’s paid to him.
He provided me with a receipt.
He has stated categorically in his own words that he accepts all responsibilities and liabilities for the apparatuses he attempted to sell me. Editors Note
Too many customers are having challenges with business people and also government agencies. These matters cannot be ignored. The PSOJ should be concerned about these matters, and the government must take action when businesses are set up to offer a service but cannot deliver it. Things are too slack in this country.
Do we keep giving these businesses a license to continue operating while the consumer loses? We definitely need to get the CAC Tribunal working again.
When funds are spent, people expect to receive good products and services. Customers must beware of the businesses they do business with.
