Pearnel Charles Arcade on Fire - An Annual Event?

I just got a report that the Pearnel Charles Arcade is on fire. This has become a recurring decimal. If you are in the area please let me know what is happening. WhatsApp your information at 876 816-5261.

Is this sabotage, is it the work of gangs, or is this another case of vendors wanting to go on the street of Kingston to sell for the Christmas season. What ever it is, Jamaica's economy continue to bleed with incidents like this and we will all pay for it.

PM Holness - Strong Economy Key Independence and Prosperity

Press Release From The Office of the Prime Minister - 20241117 1608 EST

PM Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says building a strong, self-reliant economy is crucial to Jamaica’s long-term success and independence.

Speaking last week (November 13) at a Stakeholders Engagement at the soon-to-be-open Morant Bay Urban Centre, Dr. Holness emphasized that true independence goes beyond political freedom.

The Prime Minister declared that real sovereignty can only be achieved with economic strength and resilience.

"As a post-independence Jamaican, I have never believed that my progress, my prosperity, and my development rest on anyone else. You must build your own country. Build your own household. Together, we must build the future we want," said Prime Minister Holness.

The Prime Minister’s remarks highlighted the need to move away from dependence on borrowing, foreign aid, and debt, reinforcing a vision of Jamaica as a self-sufficient nation driven by its own resources and initiative.

Prime Minister Holness called on Jamaicans to see the broader purpose behind infrastructure projects, such as the Urban Centre in St. Thomas, as essential steps towards economic empowerment.

Dr. Holness noted that issues like poor road conditions and lack of water stem from a lack of economic investment, urging residents to embrace a long-term vision for Jamaica’s growth.

"It is the pursuit of our economic independence that is going to change these pain points that affect you every day," he stated, while noting that the cycle of short-term political promises fails to address root issues.

The Prime Minister also encouraged citizens to take pride in Jamaica’s potential to achieve economic prosperity.

“Why don't we talk about what we really want—a thriving economy that provides comfortable pensions for our retirees and a robust social safety to provide PATH benefits for those in need? A strong economy is the key to fixing the roads in our communities, providing water for households, and addressing your various needs. The route to a prosperous economy begins with strategic developments like these,” stated Dr. Holness.

Prime Minister Holness also shared plans for St. Thomas to become a hub for employment and tourism, with a focus on community-based tourism that preserves the charm and history of places like Morant Bay.

The Prime Minister is envisioning a future where residents could build businesses and generate income, laying the foundation for a sustainable, community-driven economy.

The Prime Minister is calling on Jamaicans to be part of this transformative journey, reminding them that Jamaica’s economic independence is vital for creating a thriving, prosperous future for all.

Editor's Note:

Our students need to learn civics and understand that a stronger economy means a better life for all, so when they become adults, the Prime Minister's statement will resonate with them!

Update on North East Manchester JLP Conference

Omar Miller

A reliable source has advised me that MP Audley Shaw has endorsed Councillor Omar Miller to represent the JLP in the North East Manchester Constituency. Audley Shaw has been the MP for over 30 years. This seat could be a tough one to win for the JLP, because after 30 years the electorate might go for a change in the party. Interesting days are ahead.

Although the Hidran McKulsky team must be disappointed, his acceptance of the reality of another person being the flag bearer for the JLP will go a long way in healing any wounds that might exist due to the rivalry that took place to represent the JLP.

Breaking News - Potential JLP Candidate Hidran McKulsky Absent From Party Constituency Conference?

Hidran McKulsky
Possible JLP candidate for the Manchester North Eastern constituency, Hidran McKulsky was absent from the constituency conference today, Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Members of his team are alleging that McKulsky was not invited or involved in the planning of the conference.

McKulsky although recognising the right of the party to select its own flag bearer for the constituency, felt that he should have been allowed to address the conference to put forward his plans for the constituency. Mr McKulsky feels that the action of the constituency planners could give the impression that he was being kept away from the workers and voters.

It is unlikely Mr Hidran McKulsky will be representing the JLP in that constituency for the next general elections. The meeting is still going on, and from all indications, it seems the councillor for the Craig Head division will represent the JLP for North Eastern Manchester.

Mr Audley Shaw is the current member of parliament for the constituency. More changes are also expected in other constituencies due to the current MPs' age or the loss of support in their constituencies. With the polls showing the PNP leading, it is clear that the JLP has started to take certain strategic actions.

Holmwood Technical High School Bus Driver/Messenger Murdered - Principal Makes Statement

Hidrane McKulsky
This week violent crimes stalked not only our communities but also our schools. Gunmen robbed the Stella Maris Business office earlier this week which I reported, today they murdered someone at Rousseau Primary School in Kingston, and they murdered a school bus driver at Holmwood Technical High School in Manchester.

They will not stop until society has had enough and we decide to eliminate these scoundrels from our society. The sad thing is that the people especially some women protect di dutty criminal dem. Some leaders hug dem up on platforms, and teck picture wid dem.

When the police apprehend these criminals or they get killed during a police operation we hear about this one was a loved person in the community and him grow up eena church.

I received a statement from the Principal of Holmwood this evening. Click on the icon below.

Rumblings in the JLP Camp - Holness Under Fire To Change Gear

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister and Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Andrew Holness' seat is getting hot. Several JLP functionaries have taken note of the last showing of the Don Anderson Poll. Polls don't win elections. It is getting out persons to vote which will make the difference the Labourites are saying. It is felt that enough attention is not being given to the frontline party workers and the welfare of these workers. These are the persons who have to get the voters out to vote on election day.

One JLP person said that the government has to take care of everybody. The response was that it is the workers who help to put the party in power and if the workers are not comfortable, the party will be out of office after the next election.

While Jamaicans talk about politicians getting rich out of politics, party operatives declare this is not so. They state that while insurance schemes are being set up for various workers such as those in the hotel and entertainment sector, there is no insurance for parish councillors.

Talking about the government's achievements, by itself will not win an election. There is also a very strong feeling that some representatives in the top echelons of Government should give a timeline for their departure. Dragging this out will result in more tension within constituencies. One supporter in Manchester said there are good persons in the wings waiting to start campaigning to be a member of parliament.

Many party members have complained to me about persons like Minister Grange. They feel she is busy assisting groups and individuals who are in positions to help themselves. Some complained that all sectors of the country need help. Entertainment is not special. Minister Grange has figured prominently in these discussions. This resulted from a TVJ news item about artistes getting certain benefits. One person seemed to have been very upset that Vybz Kartel was part of the gathering where Minister Grange made an announcement relating to artistes. Mention was made of artistes such as Buju Banton who did not give support to the government during the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination.

It is clear that the party will have to do some soul-searching because many Labourites are not feeling comfortable as the date for the national elections draw nearer.

Over to you, Mr. Prime Minister and party executives. If I interpret the thinking of those who spoke to me, then I would say the clock is ticking away, and the prize is moving away.

I hear someone saying to me, Vernon what is happening to the other parties. I have not heard much from the third parties so there is only the PNP to talk about. Next time my friend.
