I just got a report that the Pearnel Charles Arcade is on fire. This has become a recurring decimal. If you are in the area please let me know what is happening. WhatsApp your information at 876 816-5261.
Is this sabotage, is it the work of gangs, or is this another case of vendors wanting to go on the street of Kingston to sell for the Christmas season. What ever it is, Jamaica's economy continue to bleed with incidents like this and we will all pay for it.

ReplyDeleteThat's when you know that Christmas is around the corner.
ReplyDeleteFirey Rebirth of Downtown Kingston??
ReplyDeleteThe Pearnel Charles Arcade is somewhere that I go to buy somethings for years from my special people.
Better prices than anywhere uptown and I feel more comfortable there just "respeck" everytime.
The market has changed significantly as some of the original higglers have opened stores, made enough money and have moved to other businesses including farming, churching, stock markets, have migrated etc.
In recent years the Arcade has depreciated both in sales and appearance.
The PC Arcade used to be the area of choice and many top stores today got their leads and goods from the PC Arcade higglers.
They were the ones who were style leaders and commerce leaders among the first commercial people to explore New York,California,Miami, Curacao Panama and now China as a source for their stock.
PC Arcade higglers were the Creme de LA Creme of informal Commercial importers and sellers.
They took the hassle for goods buying overseas made life easier for many large store owners who depended on them.
Then when the formal larger sector learned the ropes they were sidelined and sometimes villified.
The future I imagine could be total abandonment of the present structure for the building of a modern 10 storey Arcade with underground parking etc..
There are capable well resourced Jamaican entrepreneurs eyeing the re- civilization of that whole area inclusive of the Ward Theatre that may or may not exclude the present occupants of the PC Arcade and residents of Love Lane, Chancery Lane,Church Streets,Orange Street,King Street,Duke Street and surrounding areas.
I envision a kind of Manhattan New York kind of future development for Downtown Kingston.
This fire may be coming from interests you may have to consult with your pastor to find out.
This fire may be the catalyst for the rebirth of downtown Kingston.
Darling Street is now being being cleaned and washed and you will now be able to see the stores.

This keeps happening because successive governments keep bailing them out. I bet you that if the government stop rebuilding after a fire, then the fires would stop. I believe these fires are caused by people tiefìng electricity. Jamaicans need to wake up and realise that corruption is an expensive thing, even if it's being done the so called, working class.
ReplyDeleteMe not asking Christ. These FIRES are DELIBERATELY done . #kmt
ReplyDeleteMr. Derby: you may be on to something. Let me see if I can help. In what years were the fires? Who were the owners of the contractors getting the contract to rebuild? How many persons were employed and where did they live? Were these fires close to any major event, Christmas, elections, big sporting event or period... et al. Finally, what were the rebuilding costs and from which part of the public funds did the resources originate? Start there and let us know.
