Principal of Usain Bolt's Former School Speaks With Vernon

Many of us spend many hours listening to dancehall music, politicians, business leaders, and church leaders keeping abreast of all the stories on social media. 

It is time we start listening to our leaders in the education sector. We could help to secure the children's future.

I had a talk with the principal of William Knibb High School in Trelawny. Oh yes, one of its graduates is world-renowned athlete, Usain Bolt.

Keith Lyn was one of Jamaica's finest vocalist. He started his career with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires in the 1950s at St. Georges College. He was the backbone of the Dragonaires for many years. 

He had hits like "Ska Ska Ska", "Empty Chair", "Only A Fool Breaks His Own Heart". and more. He later migrated to the USA and started a One man band which was very successful. He lived in the States with his family, till his passing. REST IN PEACE, KEITH LYN. YOU ARE A LEGEND.

PTA Head of St. James High School Speaks Out

The situation continues to deteriorate at St. James High School. Yesterday, a teachers' meeting had to be abandoned, and after that, I learned from a source that there were no classes at the school. The students have been deprived of another day of learning.

The PTA head, Mrs. Deloris Brown-Williams, has added her voice calling for a solution.

Breaking News - Teachers at St. James High School Withdraw Their Services!

The tension at St. James High School continues. Teachers have withdrawn their services. We expect to hear from the Minister of Education, Skills, Youth, and Information shortly. I understand that various ministry officials are at the school in a meeting with the staff and administration.

Keith Lyn died last night. His son Steve just called me to confirm it. RIP Keith. One of the early Jamaican Ska singers with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. Keith was a JAVAA member who did many shows for us. He also sang an original song "Where is The Love" on our album JAVAA to the world. A great singer/performer he will be surely missed.

Is The Education Ministry Asleep While Trouble Looms at St. James High?

Joseph Williams, principal of St. James High.

Based on reports that I have been getting today, the situation at St. James High School in terms of the relationship between the school board chairman, other members of the board, and the management and staff of the institution is very challenging. The principal is Mr. Joseph Williams, and the board chairman is Mr. Christopher McCurdy.

This matter was highlighted before when Jamaica for Justice, supported by other groups, accused the principal of expelling students without due process. I thought the matter would have been investigated and charges would be laid against the principal. I criticized Jamaica For Justice (JFJ) for the position they took regarding the video of the kissing girls. JFJ kept out of the matter after a while. I found that rather strange.

I was hoping that the Ministry of Education would take steps to deal with the problems at St. James High and Mona High School because I became aware of the challenges at both schools. The chairman of the Mona High School eventually resigned in protest.

It was reported to me that the chairman of St. James High School went to the school today. One source said that things became very ugly. Teachers became concerned that this could have escalated into a serious incident. I understand that the tension at the school is affecting its smooth operation.

The Minister of Education should step in now and deal with the challenges at St. James High. 

I have heard of investigations taking place into several matters there, but I have not heard the results of these investigations. Effective leadership is needed now to deal with the situation because this is not a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

I have been very conservative in terms of what I have posted here. There is far more damaging information going around within the school environment. If the situation is not dealt with, it could have major political implications.

Citizen Express Appreciation To The Firefighters

Message Received From Fioney Loney, Commending the Fire Brigade Service.

Good day, Vernon,

Hope all is well with you!

I am asking you to highlight the bravery of these Firefighters from the Portmore Fire Station, St Catherine, who responded quickly to a fire around noon in the community of Seville Meadows 2, St Catherine and put out the blaze.

The crew did not receive a call to come to the location but was close to the neighbouring Wedgewood Community, they saw the smoke and came to assist. 

It was well worth the effort, preventing properties from being damaged. 

The fire started at the rear of the community in the bushes and spread to the entrance of dwellings. Thank God for their initiative and quick action, they managed to put out the blaze, and no damage was done to the property.

Mr. Colin Brown in the red shirt is the person in charge of the crew.

I just got a call indicating that well-known lawyer Valrie Neita-Robertson KC died today. She was also a member of the People's National Party and a very active member of the legal profession.

A lawyer who was known for her fiery defense of her clients. She was 71 years old.

Bark Di Trute Supporter From The West Barks Di Trute About The Roads!

Many of us have complained about how our roads are built and maintained. The same potholes that were fixed a few months ago have to be fixed again. These potholes were not repaired properly. When it rains and the water settles where some potholes have been fixed, you know that the potholes will reappear there. Many call the NWA the National Wutless Agency. The only thing that works there is Stephen Shaw with his smile and his sweet talk. Giving the nation sweet lyrics cannot fix the roads.

Listen to this gentleman who has several complaints, including the condition of the roads in his area.
