A reliable source has just informed me that there is a fire at the Norman Manley International Airport. It started in the lounge, and shop operators are being asked to vacate the area. This has not been confirmed by the Fire Brigade.

Note:

I just received a message from Commissioner Beckford that the Fire Brigade received a call about a fire at the NMA.

The First Female Minister of Finance of Jamaica Makes Budget Presentation

Minister Fayval Williams

The Hon. Fayval Williams made her budget presentation as the first female Minister of Finance to do so. Not known for a charismatic personality, in my opinion, she made a very factual presentation. I may have missed points that were just about political point scoring, and I am sure my readers will point it out. If she continues at this rate, she will be an effective Minister of Finance and the Public Service.

One should note the emphasis to manage our expenditure and the increase in the PAYE threshold. The government is also working to control inflation because we would not want to have inflation of 50% and above in the future.

Guest contributor to Bark Di Trute, Micspen has been advocating for the abolition of income tax. I know we will hear from him soon about this move to reduce income tax.

Breaking News - US and Ukraine Strike a Deal!

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The latest word is that Ukraine and the US have struck a deal. The US will lift the aid embargo on assistance to Ukraine. There means there will be an agreement for the supply of minerals from Ukraine to the US. The US will continue to share intelligence information with Ukraine. Ukraine has also agreed to a 30-day ceasefire deal with Russia. What is not clear is if Russia has agreed to the ceasefire.

Zeleskyy left the White House after a disastrous meeting with President Trump. Many saw Zeleskyy as losing on a good deal. It seemed inconceivable then that there would be a deal with Ukraine and the US. Interesting days are ahead.

What next after the proposed ceasefire is ended?

A Day With Sandra

Sandra Ramsay
It was a beautiful Sunday spent with one of my most wonderful supporters, Sandra Ramsay, OD, who works with Food for the Poor. Like many of my friends and supporters, Sandra regularly checks in on me to make sure I’m doing well.

Recently, I went through a rough time with what seemed like a terrible flu. I ended up at the hospital from about 7:00 PM until 3:00 AM the next morning. I did blood tests, X-rays, and even COVID tests. Nothing conclusive came from the test results. I jokingly said to the doctor, "I think it's COVID-19's cousin.

Sandra, being the caring and thoughtful person she is, insisted I get out of the house and spend last Sunday with her and her friends. In the past, she used to host Sunday dinners at her place, and it was such a treat to be part of that tradition again.

Sandra is not just a sweet soul; she also dedicates much of her time to supporting the well-being of inmates. Through Food for the Poor, she helps those in lockups get the support they need, whether it's securing bail or helping to pay fines they can’t afford.

Though I would have loved to try everything she prepared, my body can only handle so much. However, I did manage to take some pictures of the amazing meals she made.

Roast chicken with stuffings, baked potatoes, baby carrots, and beans.

Specially seasoned rice topped with almonds. It has some very tiny things, like peas in it.

Vegetables.

Spicy cucumber with vinegar and....

Spicy Tuna blended with herbs and mayonnaise in gelatin. It looked like a cake sprinkled with parsley in a bed of lettuce. The taste is mind-blowing.

I’ve taken the liberty of writing a little something about the delicious meal Sandra prepared. I don’t know much about the preparation or the ingredients. Sandra doesn’t know I’ve written this yet, but I truly hope she’ll share her thoughts and insights when she sees it.

Sandra, I thoroughly enjoyed spending Sunday afternoon at your place. The meal was absolutely delightful, and each bite was a treat for my sensitive palate. It was an experience I won’t forget!

Commonwealth Day, Monday March 10, 2025 - Celebrations in Jamaica?

Commonwealth Day is Monday, March 10, 2025. Jamaica is part of the Commonwealth. I have not heard any mention of any activities taking place to commemorate the day, but my understanding is that Jamaica benefits from being a member of the Commonwealth.

Which government department would be responsible for recognizing this day?

More about the Commonwealth.
