Remembering Edward Phillip George Seaga ON, PC, LLD (HONS) - Former Prime Minister of Jamaica

Edward Phillip George Seaga ON, PC, LLD (Hons)

"No politician singly or together will be able to equal or surpass the contributions made by EPG Seaga to Jamaica"

I do not know what Jamaica would look like without an Edward Phillip George Seaga.

Pound for pound perhaps SEAGA might be the best PM Jamaica will ever see.

Right now our premier city is a garbage dump and a cesspool for criminality.

EPGS while being MP and PM at least the place was clean.

I used to drive on Beckford Street and I ended up walking on it last week Friday - I did not know where I was.

Those of you who used to walk on Beckford Street to the bus terminus to get a bus to our Western habitats when last you took a tour? It is a mess and several deaths from ongoing gang wars between Mathews Lane, Love and Chancery lanes claimed about 20 lives in the past 3 months - most unreported.

Seaga's Back-O-Wall move was in the interest of civilized developments although seen as draconian by many on the face of it.

Will Edward Seaga the socioeconomic and cultural pragmatist or Michael Manley the paramount charming socialist charismatic lyricist in Jamaica, be a national hero someday?

I declare that they would be my two selections for such an honour.

He was a good PM yes but no way the best. Michael Manley was the best prime Minister to date.

One may devise many arguments to divide a nation while others focus on the contributions, and how the has nation benefitted from such contributions. Edward Seaga met the race card, the class card and the nationalist card and yet he has made a lot of contribution to the nation.
The lesson is every good leader puts nation above self and strives to leave at least one indelible and undeniable mark that their critics cannot dismiss. We need more of such leaders.
