Potholes and More Potholes!

A Bark Di Trute supporter sent the following question to me, and I cannot answer it. Can you?

Mr. Derby,

Please can you explain to me why we don't have same-day road patching programs, so that potholes don't have to be dug out and left for weeks and months before the road patching job is completed.

The Public Works Department used to give Jamaica same day potholes repairs service, and it also happens in other countries.

I am tired of the slackness from some of the Government Agencies that taking People life, because of poor performance,

Why can't the Police Serve them a court summons for not doing what is required to keep the nation's streets safe?

Crashed Police Vehicle

I received a video of a police vehicle that was in an accident. Persons claimed that the driver, an officer, did not have a driver's license. We look forward to getting information from the police about this matter. This seems unbelievable.

'Would Have', The National Crisis In Grammar

Broadcasters, educators, police officers, and other well-educated people in society have adopted the phrase 'would have' and used it inappropriately. The phrase is repeated ad nauseam by almost everyone. Is it a case where one fool leads the masses?

One can say, for example, "If I had money, I would have bought the cake." On the other hand, one can say, "I bought the cake." 

If you say, "I would have bought the cake." The question one might ask is, "Did you or did you not buy the cake?"

I hope my readers concur with the points made.
