FI MI CONCERN - CRIME & SCAMMING By Michael Spence

Why The Monster Continues To Grow?

You are a thinking person "values" are things that people value. Money, girls, nice cars ,big house, nice clothes, rich man, legal guns, nothing is wrong with that but if there is no opportunity legally to achieve those in Western Jamaica where the rural economy on which I grew up has virtually died while the Kingston quasi colonial government send reinforcements to quell disturbances and nothing else. The attitudes in line with modern free enterprise values are not being identical to 50 years ago thus neither understood or being prepared for spells trouble. Montego tumbled up around sugar plantations, and then came tourism, then the introduction to ganja cultivation and exports with the cocaine rider later so the government responds to the "drug problem" ignoring all the other socio-economic problems that gave rise to the resultant problem. Here we go again despicable scamming is the problem and you get rid of that now without the causative situations looked at my guess is as good as yours what will be the next frontier.

Just talking for sound bites about values and attitudes is not only intellectually deceitful or i would prefer to believe it is borne out of ignorance they could may as well call upon the well utilized refrain "divine intervention" but do not remember that God helps those who help themselves. Everybody including scammers, drug dealers, government, robot operators, school children, police and regular gunmen do. Some not leaving their bibles and ask God for assistance every step of their way. Herbert Gayle, an anthropologist of social violence at Jamaica’s University of the West Indies, Mona, said in January 2016 that authorities have not addressed the root cause of violence in Jamaica, so it was only a matter of time before killings ticked upward. No one is paying attention and we are reaping the whirlwind of murders. Poverty, inequality, greed, relative deprivation, unemployment, lack of primary education, state violence, corruption and disregarding the rule of even basic laws have been identified as some of the main drivers of criminality which must be consistently focused on.14/07/16

The Security Forces And Crime

Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin says the police high command must be mindful that elements within the security forces may be contributing to the crime surge. Mr Lewin must have known that this has been an open secret from the early days. Do you recall police men were being shot regularly in Montego Bay and environs? The allegations are that police used to raid known scammers and let us say they are caught with $550000 they would take the $500000 do no arrests and leave them with $50000. Many have allegedly gotten quite wealthy .The scammer would see that state of affairs as cop stealing from them and organize deadly retribution. It’s like every major drug dealer or Don allegedly has cops on their payroll some high ranking as low ranking cops are not as useful these too are open secrets that every commissioner and most Jamaicans are aware of but you know "a di runnings an man haffi eat a food so you lef dat alone".

You think any low ranking police or civilian can stop that? Madden, Sam Isaacs or other funeral homes pick them up poisoned (remember SSP Dayton Henry during 2013while in charge of the Clarendon police the jury found that he was “systematically” poisoned. To date no one has been charged) or the aftermath of an alleged shoot out. Mr Lewin and other Commissioners past and present must have been aware of the information out there on the road but I concede that no one is ever willing to assist in any prosecution because the reality is that everyman wants to live at the end of the day. 14/07/16

Press Statement From The JDF - Western Kingston Commission of Enquiry 2016.

19 June 2016

PRESS STATEMENT

COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY REPORT

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has conducted a preliminary review of the Report of the Commissioners of the Western Kingston Commission of Enquiry 2016.  We wish to thank the Commissioners for what we believe is a comprehensive report that outlines to a large extent the historical account of what transpired leading up to, and during, the joint police-military operation in May 2010.  We urge all Jamaicans to take the time to read the full report or at least the key findings highlighted in each chapter, in order to fully appreciate the circumstances of 2010. The Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, convened a special meeting of the Defence Board on July 17, 2016 to discuss the findings and recommendations of the report, in particular those matters related to the JDF, in order to determine the way forward.

The JDF supports the recommendation for further investigations with respect to the allegations against members of the Force regarding actions which are inconsistent with the standards of conduct expected of members of the Jamaica Defence Force. The findings and recommendations with respect to the use of mortars are under review. The Commissioners also made several recommendations regarding the procedures governing internal security operations, which will inform our ongoing deliberations.

The JDF continues to collaborate with the Jamaica Constabulary Force as we confront the current threats to our collective security and remains committed to our mandate of defending and securing our nation and all of our citizens.

Crime, Time To Act - Vernon Derby

CRIME – NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION
BY Vernon Derby

Kingston: May 2, 2016.
We need a National Anti-Crime & Anti-Indiscipline Commission headed by a Commissioner comprising of at least 11 persons. This Commission should be properly funded so that it can engage researchers to carry out research into crime and indiscipline. This Commission should be able to initiate the evaluation of and make recommendation for improving the performance of the following agencies:
·        All institutions responsible for training and the socialization and education of our people.
·        Institution responsible for investigating all forms of indiscipline and crime.
·        All institutions responsible for the administration of justice.
This Commission would also be responsible for evaluating our laws and working to ensure that our laws are made more effective to deal with the problem of indiscipline and crime.
The Commission will report to the public and to the parliament. It will function until parliament decides by a simple majority to dissolve this commission.
The Commission will assess the performance of leaders in the various areas which have a role to play in reducing crime  and indiscipline and recommend if these leaders appointments should be revoked.

Please let me have your comment about these suggestions.

CARICOM OR CARILEF - Vernon Derby

It seems as if our Caribbean neighbour Trinidad, has redefined CARICOM. CARCOM now means, “Carry Yu Money Cum, But Wi Can Do Wid out Yu”. Many Jamaicans have been treated poorly when they visit Trinidad. This has been reported in the media. Jamaicans visiting Trinidad are seen as a burden to the Trinidadian state. Jamaicans are now not sure if they are CARICOM or CARIGO. Should we now replace the strong call for CARICOM to call for CARILEF.

I cannot believe that the Trinidadian government has been subsidizing fuel for their manufacturers for a number of years now, while we are buying their fuel at a premium price. So the Jamaican people have been subsidizing the Trinidadian manufacturing sector while our manufacturing sector has been falling apart?

We have been big on CARICOM but small on JamaicaCom and we have paid dearly for it. We are big on the Caribbean Court of Justice but our justice system like an old broken down and dilapidated building is still waiting for that great overall to take place.

We go to CARICOM to have big talk yet we are not communicating with our people enough. We talk and talk about CARICOM and yet very little attention has been paid to crime in Jamaica. Our parliament is yet to come up with a comprehensive plan to deal with this challenge.

Trinidad has approximately 1.2 million people while Jamaican has 2.7 million people. Trinidad has one of the highest per capita income in the Caribbean while Jamaicans struggles near the bottom of the economic ladder in the Caribbean. Jamaica has a large market which Trinidad has made the best of.  Jamaica still continues to go down the road of poverty while Trinidad continues to climb the hill of prosperity. Trinidad is certainly having a carnival while we prepare for a nine-night. What a life, what a country.

Jamaica Land we love.

Electricity Theft Arrests Now at 304 since start of 2015

JPS is reporting that operations carried out in collaboration with members of the security forces, has resulted in the arrest of 304 persons for the illegal abstraction of electricity - since the start of the year, to July 15.  JPS crews have also pulled down 9,512 throw-up lines for the same period.

This, as crews have been relentlessy pursuing the perpetrators of electricity theft.  On Tuesday July 14, the teams’ latest move saw the St. Catherine community of Windsor Heights in Central Village, being rid of 850 throw-up lines.  One man was arrested, but several others fled from their residences to avoid being associated with the illegal connections.

On June 30, nine persons were brought before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court, for the illegal abstraction of electricity.  Six of them pleaded guilty and were fined an average of $150,000 each or six months in prison.  Following that, on July 1, five persons were brought before the Linstead Resident Magistrate’s Court, with the same charge.  Four pleaded guilty and were also fined an average of $150,000 each.

JPS is reminding non-paying users of electricity, that regularization is a straight forward process.  The Company is also anticipating that its Community Renewal programme in 7 communities in Kingston, will assist in creating sustained regularization, through public education and practical assistance (such as house wiring), among other measures.

FI WI CONCERNS - By Michael Spence

Capital Punishment

The laws that govern murder have been for some time now capital murder those for which you can hang and non capital murder and manslaughter only attracts imprisonment. With all of these distinctions, however heinous the murders look most would not attract the death penalty so the usual refrain "HANG THEM, HANG THEM" is a FEEL GOOD waste of time under the present circumstances. With almost 15000 murders in ten years less than five people are on death row presently. This is paradise for you know whom we are not even catching.10/05/15

Getting Those Crimminals

The newspaper screams Singjay Killed in Montego Bay or the police have reported that a 40-year-old woman was shot dead by unknown assailant/s on Dallas Castle main road in Papine, St Andrew on Friday. In both cases  the police are asking anyone who may be able to assist the investigation .That is what we hear every day and nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what is the source of this constant murdering of our one another I mean Jamaicans killing Jamaicans is it that we are so dunce that we do not know that the world is watching, listening and walking away with their investments to other countries with less idiotic people. Then we complain how government not doing this and government not doing that what about us.? This crime solution needs a mass movement to root out the criminals/murderers/rapists in our houses, from our families and next door the police is an assistant to that movement since it is evident that they have little effect on the crime. 09/05/15

 Drivers License and Bureaucracy

The Jamaica drivers’ licenses test must be the most difficult driving test in the world or is it that once you pass you are guaranteed to never have an accident in your lifetime. That only fuels corruption and the more you try to solve it by adding more layers of bureaucracy. Making it harder makes the corrupt sellers and their associates get rich faster as there is now more reason to justify higher bandooloo prices. Simplicity counters a lot of corruption but professional paper pushers and chatocrats are blind to pragmatism. So as Henley Morgan always tell you if you see problems you make a business out of it the licence sellers do just that. 09/05/15

 Bush Fires

Bush fires sweeping across several communities in east rural St Andrew in the community of Flamstead since last Saturday could leave billions of dollars in losses. This fire I am sure was not caused by spontaneous combustion it must have been started by a slash and burn farmer or what about the allegation of a person burning of an old mattress thrown down the gully that spread the fire uncontrollably. The need for education and more education on the dangers of one of Jamaica's national pastime to light fires to "bun out" crosses and other things cannot be overstressed and a no nonsense approach be taken island wide to enforcing the law against this practice.09/05/15

Having Children

Most of us out there were not planned for and some very successful persons also had single parent. I bet you soon hear someone asking for a parenting commission or ministry where you apply for a license to become parents. Apart from the breakdown in values and what popular radio host Barry G calls “low blow etiquettes e.g. man saying to a lady hi stiff breast me would a ---- you right now”,   have now become normal and an economy that is not growing is a recipe for disaster in all the pillars that maintains, develop and grow society. Solving those problems has to be a holistic one that needs resolute leadership that reflects Prime Minister Portia Simpson Millers talking of a “zero tolerance” approach to persons abusing/killing women and children. Those who are promoting, rape, slackness and nastiness as entertainment must also be rebuked/punished.08/05/15

 Human Trafficking

I hope our investigators are smart enough to investigate these cases from the inside out and not only concentrate on the given leads or misleads on the outside. If you know how human trafficking works the younger the better. If we do not have the depth of expertise in the area of human trafficking we should seek it outside. Custody battle heating up or what?07/05/15

  Body Cameras for Police

Chief Devon Clunis, the Jamaican-born head of the Winnipeg Police Service, acknowledged that there are substantial costs to acquire and roll out the body cam technology but said it costs significantly more to manage the data captured on an ongoing basis. No problem great opportunity for someone close to the administration to supply the body cams and manage the data captured. Waah a gwaan Jamaica?06/05/15

Fi Wi Concerns - Michael Spence

Renato Adams - Former police officer

Effect of Renato Adams On Crime In Jamaica

I recall while Adams was around regarding crime he had a kind of socio therapeutic effect on the population. Crime really is functionally a socioeconomic phenomenon that really cannot be tackled in isolation other socially supporting efforts. If you mash up the  economy, unemployment ,crime and a bundle of social evils accompany and then the police get basket to carry water ending up with even police, parson, lawyer, teacher,  committing crimes like ,robbery, extortion, fraud, scamming and murder.

Crime Is Big Business

Crime is also a multi  billion dollar business and if you were to eliminate crime people would be demonstrating in the short run "we want justice we want crime" because thousands would lose their jobs.Court house become wholesales ,police and lawyers become taxi drivers or farmers, prisons become colleges and you are allowed to imagine many more options. 24/04/15
The problem is that our large fines have no other objective than to collect taxes through a convoluted back door. It seems that police are being assessed and graded for promotion and a part of it is how many tickets they write .That in itself is a corruption of due process. Our authorities thrive on the multibillion industry of crime i.e. people breaking the various laws that require punishment and or imprisonment. Sooner than later you may be able to go to prison and pay for a 5,4,3,2.1 or no star room as long as you can afford it meaning you will soon have 5 star prison hotels where you can stay and run your business a road and gwaan mek money. That is a business opportunity Jam Law arrange the signing of a MOU nuh for even $4 billion to build out some graded star prisons where we can house prisoners from all over the world for a fee so what we have now is  a"Prison Tourism Product".25/04/15

The Tivoli Enquiry Chairman

Chairman Simmonds  is really a five star chairman in full control from week one - if you form the fool he will expel you. I rate him highly. The best I have seen in my lifetime. Do you recall an enquiry when the chairman started to snore during those proceedings and it was dubbed the "snoring commission". Chairman Simmonds is always on the ball "big him up".25/04/15

Jamaica A Criminal's Paradise!!!

For the past 10 years over 15000 murders how many people hung or on death row? Check it, any was hung and less than five on death row. Criminals/murderers are having a good time isn't this a Criminal's paradise? 26/04/15

Taxation

Did we really have to wait on a study to know that “JAMAICA'S taxation levels are higher than most of its developing nation peers”.We  have perfected tax and borrow economics. Soon the IMF  will have to learn from us and get us to teach other poverty stricken economies how to love and create the poor and enjoy the parasitic non productive lifestyle. Jamaica no Problem - every living and dead Jamaican know what UHY. An international accountancy network is just revealing that to themselves. 26/04/15

The Qur'an

Chapter in the QUR'AN named Surah 4:24 I read it and it seems to prohibiting slackness Surah4: 22 and 23.For example 22 says "marry not women whom your fathers married, it was shameful, odious an abominable custom indeed" In 23: "prohibited to you for marriage are your mothers daughters, sisters, fathers sisters, brothers, daughters, foster mothers who gave you suck and it goes on. Those whom your right hand possess I interpret to mean the woman who you are married to or in other words "fi you woman" nothing to do with, raping women, slavery or evil ideology.29/04/15

Legalize Abortion

Quite frankly I believe that it is a wasteful argument  not to legalize abortion  in Jamaica.Women must be free to legally choose what they do with their bodies and even if they bear children. The fact is that abortion is going on everyday some dangerously in the shadows all around the country. I would have no problem with legal abortion, prostitution or euthanasia. Prostitution (consensual sex for a fee) also saves family life needed to maintain a stable society. 29/04/15

Downtown - A Disaster Happening!

I constantly said downtown was a disaster waiting to happen, now it is a disaster happening with someone being shot on the streets with greater regularity. I was almost shot myself, vehicle shot up and man beside me shot while we were both hugging the ground on upper King Street on the 4th of March 2015. Eight people shot thankfully none fatally, one police included. There needs to be some rapid interventions from West through Central to East Kingston to help reduce strife. The source of the killings is mainly gang /domestic related and less of rampant criminality/robberies which is also unacceptable. The more what is going on continues the more reprisals are fuelled and the danger of passers by getting shot increases without warning at times. If you hear shots just hug the ground I mean stay low and crawl to cover better than running. There is also need for hard intelligence driven and community policing. Hope "Bigga Ford" can help they need to get back McGregor also they both know the East, Central and West Kingston very well .Businesses are being affected large and small. The downtown economy is dying. 29/04/15

Getting A House

In the face of one bank posting a profit over a year in excess of $3 billion. Can you imagine a youth taking a mortgage on a $10million house at 10% for 30 years has incurred a debt of over $40 million before the keys are handed to them, then he needs a car he and a generation after him may be indebted for life if he takes a mortgage on the equity developed over time. This is where I think it is ripe for the NHT to enter the housing market, widen the clientele with lower rates thus forcing down the other regular market rates. If Jamaica is to make a significant dent in poverty interest rates have to get in line with the rest of the productive world while being more accessible.29/04/15

These Fines

The problem is that our large fines have no other objective than to collect taxes through a convoluted back door. It seems that police are being assessed and graded for promotion and a part of it is how many tickets they write .That in itself is a corruption of due process. Our authorities thrive on the multibillion industry of crime i.e. people breaking the various laws that require punishment and or imprisonment. Sooner than later you may be able to go to prison and pay for a 5,4,3,2.1 or no star room as long as you can afford it meaning you will soon have 5 star prison hotels where you can stay and run your business a road and gwaan mek money. That is a business opportunity Jam Law arrange the signing of a MOU nuh for even $4 billion to build out some graded star prisons where we can house prisoners from all over the world for a fee so what we have now is  a"Prison Tourism Product".25/04/15 (Editors Note: DCP Grant says that the assessment system does not encourage police to issue tickets.)

Murders - What Have We Done?

For the past 10 years over 15000 murders how many people hung or on death row? Check it, none hung and less than five on death row. Criminals/murderers are having a good time isn't this a Criminal's paradise? 26/04/15

FI WI CONCERNS - Michael Spence

Dons As Consultants

With so many heinous crimes being committed lately many are calling for the most draconian measures to be meted out. Do we recall the "Gun Court which was painted red because it dread"," "indefinite detention" among draconian measures in the era of 70's 80 the murder rate then was a fraction of what it is now. The evidence is that a mandatory sentences without due process is injustice and knee jerk reaction seems to make matters worse. The ideal approach is to look at the conditions that create the need for guns and ammunition or conflicts and do something about that bolstered by effective policing/investigations and an efficient justice system. The certainty of getting caught is the most effective deterrent to crime, the cleared up rate must improve. You know one top Don recommended that there should be a focus on reducing the supply of ammunition would make guns useless no one has taken on his suggestion seriously. These Dons are Criminal Executive Officers (CEOs),it would be a good idea out of the box to have one or two of them being consultants to the relevant ministers or ministries and stop bury our heads in the sand.20/04/15

ISIS

These activities by IS militants is getting bolder and more often so none of us are safe any part of the world, they seem to be well organized .financed and brutal. There should be a focus now on cutting off financing combined with a targeted education program to would be sympathizers. Only Iran can make a dent if they would be willing to cooperate with other countries. The stumbling block is that Islamists are not willing to join with non Islamic people to fight Islamic people. This is a tough one as war against Islam does not end and they never die, or commit suicide they are martyrs working in earnest to establish a Caliphate which is getting larger than Iraq and Syria so instead of being ISIS they are now IS. 20/04/15

 Officers Of The Court Wards...?

Lately a number of lawyers are being hauled before the courts because of allegations of impropriety some of them quite prominent. All lawyers should have a client trust account or otherwise some legally transparent method of securing clients' funds. Thieves are thieves are found in all walks of life and potential clientele should do their due diligence also. The General Legal Council does a good job in trying to weed out the profession and as far as I know it is a no nonsense organization that can punish you for doing or not doing something that affects the clients interest. It would be good Mr Derby to get someone from the General Legal Council on your program to shed some light on this dark spot tainting the legal profession. 20/04/15

 Road Traffic Law

As I read through the proposed traffic fines under the Road Traffic Act I made the following observations. Failing to use appropriate hand signal - $2,000. This one needs to be deleted with the lack of electronic signal being an offence.Overtaking in an intersection to be added this is a very dangerous activity I see daily. Overall most of the fines are oppressive, unconscionable and foolish with the authorities not collecting 60% of traffic fines presently. What's the point of increasing fines or do they plan to have only traffic police and then a dedicated traffic prison. Considering that minimum wage is $5600 for a 40hr work week fines should not be increased more than the average inflation rate for 10 years whatever that is. Draconian thinking or methods do not correct ills they make matters worse whether you choose "left or write" one has to apply reasonable pragmatism.21/04/15

 That Youth

The St Mary youth accused of going to join ISIS is still in custody. What an injustice on the child of poor black rural people and we say how we love and care for the poor. Even the deaf and dumb see that this youth needs to go home to the love and care of his family. These are some of the things that push and harden youths to turn to all kinds of groups and gangs for solace and rescue from barbarity and injustice. Time to jus leggo di yute mek him gwaan a him yaad. 21/04/15

 Police Impersonator

Fifty-seven-year-old repeat police impersonator Derrick Thompson, yesterday pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretense and impersonating a police officer. What is the protocol regarding the number of policemen who should be working as far as I know it should be at least two one acts as cover or back up in case of anything. Any one police accost me no car, bicycle, bike or another police in sight I immediately get suspicious because most times it is always "left not write" "left or write" is the correct corrupt approach. Now if traffic fines are being increased as proposed God help motorists and if you have 3ounces of ganja instead of 2 you need God's help times two. 21/04/15

 Is Councillor Haughton Alone?

Again they pick on councilor Haughton a weak Hanover link out in rural Jamaica,  why not audit all Parish Councils starting in Kingston let us see how clean they all are because my guess is all of them have the same modus operandi "parson christen him pickney first". There should be a full scale island wide audit of parish councils after which mass suspensions if needed should take place. Did the council get value for money paid to family, if yes why suspension?. Is there a rule that qualified family members of a mayor or any other politician become ineligible for work in their jurisdiction? 21/04/15

Have We Gone Too High On Ganja?

Have We Gone Too High

So Jamaica is on a HIGH. Man and man feel dem free fi get high pan di weed. Man and man and woman and woman free fi hol' a splif. That is not really the case because while the Amendment to the Drug Enforcement Act allows persons to grow and to use ganja in specific circumstances it is not saying that we can grow and use ganja as we like.

Many Questions

Actually, probably the changes will make us feel that we can smoke ganga as we like. For example they talk about being ticketed if you are caught with more than two onces of ganja. I didn't even know that at the official level we still talk about ounces. There are many questions which need to be answered:

  • How are the police going to know the weight of the ganja that a person is carrying?
  • Will the police be given little scales to weigh the ganja?
  • Will they have portable laborataries so that they can test the vegetable matter in order to ascertain whether or not the vegetable looking matter is ganja?
  • How will the police verify the name given by citizens when we do not have a system for National Identification?
  • If the fine for a ticket is JAD500, will that cover the cost of the ticket, receipt for payment and all administrative work that is involved in processing this ticket?

Traffic Ticketing System Now Ganja Tickets

We have not been able to manage the traffic ticket system. I understand there are thousands of outstanding traffic tickets. We have had accidents and the drivers involved in these accidents have hundreds of outstanding traffic tickets. Are we going to add the traffic ticket problems to the ganja tickets.

Police To Use Discretion!

I wonder if we were too HIGH when we came up with these amendments? I heard an official stating that the police will have to use their discretion!!! Police officers using their discretion? I hope this will not encourage the 'Eat a food mentalilty' so the question will be 'Left or Write'.

Time Will Tell

Only time will tell if I am Right or if I am Wrong. We make laws and then we try to work it out so we will have to make an amendment to the amendment.

Yu Want Yu Green Card?

Those who intend to migrate to the US and other countries  and who believe that they are free to smoke the weed could end up being free to stay in Jamaica and not free to migrate!!! What a Life...What a country!

FI WI CONCERNS 2015 - Michael Spence

Kayalicia Simpson Killed

A Newspaper article states that  14-year-old Kayalicia Simpson, the Donald Quarrie High School promising model student who was hacked to death, was pregnant came as no surprise to residents of the Newlands Housing Scheme in St Thomas, This case bears out the point that if you see or suspect anything funny regarding a child involving any person or adult do not wait to tell it to the authorities you could save a life. In this case all involved in and around that household should be brought to book in the first instance. Let this case be a precedent that the media can run with it like they do with less serious cases of fraud and other politically connected matters only because high profile persons are involved. Let every child in this country be high profile and important. In many of these cases I have seen it is revealed after the tragedies that people in and around the district, street or community either knew or had their suspicions and no one said anything. These are horrendous crimes and should be included at the level of CRIME STOP infrastructure with all the witness protection and  the secrecy involved. 07/03/15

Steer Town - Disaster Waiting to Happen!!!

Steer Town in St Ann and environs is a disaster waiting to happen and deeper holistic interventions need to take place and at least stop the rot. If not, Kingston roughest areas will be like Sunday schools in comparison. The squatting especially must be nipped in the bud as many people from Kingston's roughest areas from both political divides have migrated to these areas so they bring some of the unsavory garrison attitudes to bear. Many decent poor people squatting in Green Bay have had to flee the growing criminality and uncouth behaviour of the many new residents. Member of Parliament Shahine Robinson said “the challenges facing the community are not insurmountable, with many of them due to poverty”. The newly installed Superintendent of Police the capable, competent and personable Steve Brown will have the support from law abiding citizens but policing alone cannot solve those problems .There has to be a holistic approach to the problems which are truly not insurmountable. 03/03/15

 Is Your Water PH Right

I noticed in one newspaper article a number of water bottles having the names of schools competing for supremacy at the upcoming boys and girls championships The Ministry through the Bureau of Standards and The Scientific Research Council should make sure that all this water is PH7 or above or at the required standards meaning that the water should range from neutral to alkaline and be mainly H2O.This demonstrates a deepening of capitalist competitive free enterprise reaching into every aspect of life including church and school. Now we are sure that socialism is truly dead and buried in Jamaica and many other places never to return.3/3/15

Another Black Youth Bites The Dust At The Hands Of The .......?

The first picture shows what Mario Deane looked like after being changed for a ganja spliff and being locked up in the Barnett Street lock up in Montego Bay and the second one shows how he looked prior to that..

Source - Jamaica Observer

Many persons overseas especially, complained that Jamaicans are an homophobic country and persons who are gays are abused in Jamaica.. The fact is, it is a way of life for young men generally to be abused by those who are to serve and protect.

The question is are we going to allow this to continue? The Prime Minister declares regularly that she loves poor people yet she has not said a word about this matter. Is she working, working, working and is she working to see that there is justice for this poor Jamaican youth?

The latest news is that two other prisons have been charged for beating Mario. The sad joke is that it  has been reported that the two men who have been accused have, had psychological problems and it is possible they will not be able to defend themselves properly in court.

News just emerging also is that one of the accused have been given a severe beating. One wonders if these two accused will live to  have their day in court. Help to save these young men lives by passing this blog on to at lease twenty persons. I believe that these men are going to lose their lives in prison. Their relatives are very poor and they cannot even afford the services of a lawyer.

The only day we will see real change in this country is if the Minister of Security, The Minister of Justice and the Acting Commissioner is required to resigned.

We need to have a national identification system and used persons ID number to issue tickets for petty offences rather than locking these persons up. It was reported about another case of a man who was looked up for over two months for a petty crime without being brought before court. The man case was dismissed.

Jamaican Police Gave Police Car To Her Bad Man Friend To Drive???

It was confirmed to me by the police that on June 12, 2012 a service vehicle was in the possession of a Corporal from the Christiana Police Station. This is in the parish of Manchester. On the same day (June 12, 2012) the vehicle was allegedly driven by one Leroy Pottinger a mechanic from Litchfield District in Trelawny.

Pottinger became a suspect in the murder of a farmer in the Lime Tree area committed August 1, 2012.  Lime Tree is in the parish of Trelawny. Pottinger was set upon by a mob and chopped to death on September 2, 2012.

I was told that the corporal had been suspended from driving service vehicles and was currently on suspension but I subsequently learned that the officer was not suspended.

Although I have repeatedly asked for an update on this matter, I am yet to get any further information. I assume therefore that the corporal is still in the police force and might soon be the next Commissioner of Police!
