The Iconic Marjorie Whylie Had A Great Birthday Today

Friends helped Marjorie Whylie enjoy her special day today. I have had the wonderful experience of working with Marjorie in the NDTC, in the National Pantomime, on stage and on radio performing in the play Stanley, Fay, Pularchie and P. How could I forget my time on the popular TV programme for children with her and Miss Lou, Ring Ding.

It is a pity that it is hard to find great children's shows these days. Children now attend adult shows.

What's Happening - October 31, 2024

Pink Coconut Water

I never knew that I would live and see pink coconut on the supermarket shelves! What impact that will have on the price? What impact will it have on your health?

Elections are coming up so can we look for green and orange coconut water also.

Parking at NMA!

These new pay station machines at the airport parking lot are not working? "The pay stations are not conducive to this station", says the CEO. Have these machines been used in another country which is similar to Jamaica?

Do these machines have specifications in terms of where they should be placed?

The CEO says that they will put a case around them. Have these machines had similar challenges in countries with similar climatic conditions and that solution worked?

Are these machines 60 Hertz and not 50 Hertz, which the current producted by JPSCo? What is the warranty on these machines?

This story seems similar to the Doppler radar system which has not worked for many months. Will that machine be sent back to the company and the country of origin? Are these foreign companies dumping defective machines in Jamaica?

Who will answer these questions?

Fraud at The Supermarket

Remember not to allow anyone to stand next to you in the supermarket when you are with the cashier. They can video your PIN, or use a gadget to grab information from your credit or debit card.

The customer standing close to you could deliberately mix up your items with theirs so that you pay for theirs. You will then leave the item because it is not yours and they collect it.

Ensure that you put a limit on your credit card and block it when you are not using it. Have your bank application on your phone and use the application to unlock it or increase the spending limit when you need to.

Stella Maris Dance Ensemble - 31 Years of Excellence

Dr MoniKa Lawrence

Dance, culture and community come together as Stella Maris Dance Ensemble (SMDE) marks 31 years of artistic excellence on Saturday, November 2 at 8 pm and Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 5 pm at the Little Theatre in Kingston.

As has happened since 2014, Stella Maris Dance Ensemble will host about 500 children from homes of safety and inner-city communities throughout the corporate area to attend the show free of cost and serve refreshments on Friday, November 1 at the Little Theatre.

Under the artistic direction of Dr MoniKa Lawrence and Associate Director Wendi Hoo Fatt, the 2024 season of dance will present a diverse and compelling repertoire with featured works by renowned choreographers from Jamaica and broad.

Audiences can look forward to performances by legendary choreographers such as Jamaican icon Rex Nettleford; Abeldo Gonzalez from Cuba; Dr Kemal Nance from the USA and Renee McDonald of Jamaica, alongside SMDE’s celebrated productions.

The 2024 season will explore such themes as environmental preservation, the relationship between man and his environment, honouring the internationally acclaimed artiste Jimmy Cliff and the interpersonal relationships between genders. SMDE will also delve into the displacement of African ancestors to the Caribbean and the emergence of a Creole society in ‘Silent Whispers’.

One of the highlights of the season will be the classic work ‘Selah – Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, but Nobody Wants to Die’, choreographed by Dr Lawrence.  This will bring together singers and dancers in a celebration of entering the Holy City in all its majesty and the goodness of God. A special guest artiste will be Dawn Fuller-Phillips, former soloist with the NDTC Singers.

Statement from Julian Robinson, PNP Spokesperson

Press Release from Opposition Spokesperson on Finance, Planning and the Public Service - 20241030:

MP Julian Robinson - Opposition Spokesperson on Finance, Planning and the Public Service

Kingston, Jamaica, October 30, 2024: Yesterday in Parliament, Prime Minister Andrew Holness made a false statement by claiming that the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 145% when he took office. I must correct this: in fact, the debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 115% when the People’s National Party (PNP) left office in 2016, after a period of careful fiscal management.

In 2012, the PNP inherited a challenging economic situation with the debt-to-GDP ratio at 145%. By 2016, through determined efforts, we had reduced this to 115%, achieving a substantial improvement that averaged an annual reduction of 7.5%.

It is fallacious for the Prime Minister to suggest that his administration alone achieved the current debt levels by implying they began their tenure at 145%. In reality, the debt-to-GDP ratio in 2007, when the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) took office, was 107%, and during their administration, it rose to 145%. The PNP then undertook a significant recovery, bringing it down by 30 percentage points in four years to 115% in 2016.

Jamaicans deserve transparency, particularly in areas that impact their economic future. It is essential and important to present the truth to Jamaicans and fact check the Prime Minister. As we await the appointment of a new Finance Minister, I urge the Prime Minister to provide truthful representations on national finance to foster informed public discourse

News Just In

Paul Patmore the PNP caretaker for Southern Trelawny is pumping up the campaign for the by-election in Southern Trelawny. He is certainly taking no changes, especially with the announcement that former MP Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert who had resigned as JLP MP for the area will be a candidate for the by-election.

Patmore will have a rally on November 6, 2024, from 10 am to 6 pm in Lowe River. Trelawny.

Jazz In The Gardens - The Place for Lovers of Great Jamaican and International Music

It was another great show - Jazz In The Gardens on Sunday, October 27, 2027. The overcast skies did put a shadow over the event and the fans came out to show their support.

Heading the list of guests was the Mayor of Kingston and St Andrew, Andrew Swaby. I recognized other persons such as Monica Brown - former head of the Student's Loan Bureau, veteran radio and television producer Lorna Gordon, and her daughter Stephanie Gordon Reid, NSWMA head Audley Gordon, DSP Elsa Smith, Danny Roberts, Justice David Batts, Olive Brown and her husband Vernal Brown, Sharon Northover, Vivian Talbot and others. Winners of the Bark Di Trute tickets Veronica Campbell-Dare and Sylvia Martin, were there to enjoy their prizes. Follow my blog and you will never know what you might win. I had tickets to visit Mexico and to stay there for a week and no one entered. They thought it was a hoax.😀

The performances were of international standard. Everton Pessoa's big Band was a hit with the audience with musicians like Dean Frazer and others. Nikeisha Barnes continues to grow from a competitor in a competition, to a singer, then performer and now she is definitely the artiste to watch. Rojjah was the final act. He had the people standing and dancing throughout his performance. Rojjah's ability to use the stage and dance is unmatched in Jamaica at this time.

Jazz In The Gardens is the place to go, to network and meet new friends. It's the place where many go to celebrate their birthdays and to be recognised by the show organizers. See you there on December 29, 2024. Tell your visiting relatives and friends to visit this top class show.

Major Traffic Snarl on Shooters Hill in Manchester

I am getting reports of a major traffic snarl on Shooters Hill in Manchester and some people are wondering what is causing this. I have since received a picture of an accident. Motorists should avoid that area for the time being.

I hope to get information from the police stating what is happening and how soon the road will be cleared.

Thanks to those citizens who have sent this information to me.

Corruption is Part of Wi DNA

These days, everyone is talking about corruption. It’s the hot topic, as usual, but mostly just talk. Now, it’s front and centre on the political stage. It seems that corruption is part of our DNA.

After the elections, though, it might all go back to business as usual. I don’t believe the public truly cares about corruption—most of us are only concerned because we’re struggling. Corruption is everywhere: in finance, business, the public sector—you name it. From electricity theft and illegal water connections to praedial larceny, people are working together to bend the rules for their own gain.

Corruption is everywhere! Click below to listen to the latest *Bark Di Trute* podcast and share it with friends and family.

Big Up Vernon Derby

Big up to Vernon Derby for blessing me with tickets to Room 513! The show was mad—honestly, it had me thinking about my life in ways I never expected. It wasn’t just about the laughter and drama; it really mek mi sit back and reflect on some real changes I need fi mek. How often do you leave a play feeling like that?

The performances by Glen “Titus” Campbell, Courtney Wilson, Sheree Elise, and Quera South were on point! From start to finish, the energy was intense, and the storyline kept everyone locked in. My mom and I were both blown away, and trust me, she doesn’t usually go to these things. It was our first time, and what an introduction to theater it was!

If you haven’t seen Room 513 yet, what are you waiting on? This is the kind of show that not only entertains but also makes you think long after it’s over. You don’t want to miss this. Take my advice and grab your tickets before the final curtain falls!

Hi Vernon....... good morning. Please bark the truth about the pension increase. It's 10 years since I have retired from the classroom and my basic pension has remained the same to date. It was only the supplemental that increased by $1,700 monthly. This is an insult to pensioners. The Minister of Finance indicated that the pensioners have received a substantial increase in pension payment. I would certainly like to know what has happened to the promised substantial increase in pension payment. The Minister stated that pensioners have not received an increase in 10 years so they will be getting a substantial increase in pension. Please shout out what is the true situation with the increase in pension and let me know. Thank you
