Outstanding Performances By St. James High Students - Listen to Them!

Principal Joseph Williams.
School administrators are facing serious disciplinary challenges across the island. Based on my feedback, there are those in society who have a problem with students being socialized in an environment where there are strict rules and there is respect for authority.

The common philosophy among many is, 'What matters is not what is on the child's head but what is in it.' If children turn up late for classes, the school must admit them. Not allowing a habitually late student in the school is a teaching moment for our students.

This era seems very different from the one in which I was brought up. Today I spoke with two young people who attended St. James High School, which was called 'Ketch Man College' by some people. Gangs were a part of the school community, and the academic achievement was nothing to write about.

I spoke to St. James High past students Hope Hamilton and Marco-Dean Gordon this week on air, so let us listen to the introduction.

I asked Marco-Dean about St. James High.

He told me about some of his achievements.

St. James High not only exposes the children to academic studies but also to cultural things.

Hope Hamilton and Marco-Dean are the top-performing boy and girl for 2025. Let us hear how well they did in their CXC examinations.

Principal Joseph Williams had a thank-you party and celebrations for the staff. Let's join the celebration and stop tearing down those who are trying to do good. I decided to support the school community even when they were being bombarded by negative press, and I am glad that I did. Mi proud a dem!

Editor's Note:
I was not able to give you the full interview with these wonderful students.

Once again, I call on those media houses that published negative things about the St. James High School and its administration to congratulate the school community on its achievements. Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ) must respond to these successes. If the JFJ fails to do this, they will lose more of their credibility. JFJ was strong in condemning certain actions of the principal that were not true. Voices were calling for the removal of the principal.

If the principal were removed, then this story would be different, and the children of the poor would not have had this opportunity to shine. Abiding by strict discipline and order has enabled many of us to survive. Today's generation needs it even more.
